so a R900 ... that's quite quick, I might just skip out on the R800 then. I'm in no rush to jump aboard the DX11 train... deltatux
then again, from what I heard, the R800/R900 chips have been on the drawing board well before their release, they are usually just refined. Probably, AMD had plans for R800 to be an interim release while they put all the muscle behind R900. Just like how Intel does it with the tick-tock (except it ticks and tocks differently). deltatux
One year refresh. Isn't that what they've been doing, or at least been trying to do for the last... since ever? I don't see where the surprise is here.
http://www.nordichardware.com/news,9998.html "We shared some stuff on the next generation Radeon series yesterday. The launch is slated for Q3 next year, but it largely depends on who gets the contract. TSMC and we might be looking at Q3 2010 launch, perhaps even on 28nm, while GlobalFoundries will need a bit more time, Q4 at best. The next generation is the first whole new architecture since the introduction of R600, which both R700 and R800 builds upon. Beta drivers have revealed a chip named R9xx, which points to that AMD has set the ASICs already, leaving tape-outs to occur in six months or so. First the name Radeon 100 started circulating earlier this week, then we hear these Greek code-names we're not sure what to make of (still pending confirmation), and now we have three Islands in the same stream of information. We're thinking these are the names of the R9xx mobile counterparts; Cozumel, Ibiza and Kauai (party islands if you ask me). More information should appear soon, keep your eyes open." A bit early to start speculating about R900 imo.
TSMC 28nm comes Q2-Q3 2010. No doubt they'll be aming at that. NVIDIA is probably aming the same, of course the Q3 isn't a deadline for them. And global foundries doesn't do GPUs. At least for now...
Graphics cards take about 2 years to develop, no reason to speculate, it is already designed and being implemented.
Not surprised. 5800 series out a year after 4800 series. So 6800 series out a year after 5800 is about right.
True, but there's no information about this chip. You can't speculate about something you have no clue how is going to look like. Much less in which node will be based on, 40/28nm.
You can't speculate it's existence, as it certainly exists, and it is also know it is the next generation GPU like the GT300 is supposed to be. It could be made on 32nm at GF, but I have a feeling it will debut at 40nm and have a refresh in 2011.
i just think nvidia ought to get the gt300 out or they are going to be in a sticky situation..with the 5 series selling now..if the gt300 doesnt come for another 3-4 months then a ati refreshed 5 series and before u know it..6 series..ati's on the move..which is good to hear..since the 2 and 3 series didnt do so well for them..
