IIRC, there is an internal 2 pin S/Pdif inout header you could use.

i did read that it had an internal hookup. would i need a back panel extension? do those exist and are they readibly available? i noticed that the new front panel drives for the newer model x-fi's do not have a spdif input. why not!

They should be easy to find or Auzentech may offer one down the road.

S/Pdif headers are simple. 2 wires.... 1 signal and 1 ground.

Well, its up and running. Was a bit of a rocky ride.

Definitely a better card than the x-meridian.

Although currently can't seem to get multi-channel audio playback over hdmi for games without using DTSinteractive. Its either stereo or silent. Must be missing something.

And the Win7 sound properties for the hdmi shows 2 channel and no hdcp. It appears to be wrong.

    Play with it more tomorrow.

Did you check the box "play audio from speakers through HDMI"?
-It is under the HDMI control panel in the cards panels.
IIRC, the manual is on the site as it might help you.. There has also been a driver update since release

    For games:
Digital audio (HDMI) device will only output 2 channel
Speakers device does not output any sound

So I sent a support ticket.

The manual is pretty brief. The faq pdf doesn't offer much more.

*nice now speakers won't output anything at all in entertainment mode. Definitely buggy stuff. (fixed by a restart)

AFAIK, this card will output gaming audio over HDMI when set properly.
Post back with your replay from Auzentech.

    [Here's what they sent me]

    Thank you for contacting Auzentech.

Please let us know the details of your settings in X-Fi Audio console and PowerDVD9 settings.
Please also explain about your connections between your projector, TV, receiver and sound card.

"Digital Audio (HDMI) shows max number of channels 2 and HDCP not supported. "
Where did you see that information?
If you want to get multichannel surround sound in games, we recommend you to set the "Speaker environment" to "6speakers".

[Here's what I just sent them]

    Game mode:
    CMSS-3d - Disabled
    Crystalizer - Disabled
    EQ - Disabled
Mixer - Enable EAX effects @ 0.0db; rest disabled.
    Speakers - 7.1
    Bass - Enable Bass redirection @ 80hz
Headphones - Automatically enable is disabled, mute is enabled.
SPDIF I/O is grayed out; unchangeable
Digital I/O - play stereo mix is disabled.
    Encoder - OFF
    HDMI - Use hardware default
HDMI -> X-FI audio settings - Play audio from speakers through HDMI is enabled and Auto Switch Speakers was clicked.

    Windows 7 playback devices
    [Speakers as default]
    non-game is in stereo
Games are stereo with a possible 1-2 second sound appearing in rear speaker.
Also, When using noise w/7.1 in the X-FI game mode control panel only the two front surrounds play noise. The rest produce no sound including sub.

    [Digital Audio (HDMI) as default]
With no sound Receiver receives 7.1 channel
With sound (any sound at all) receiver only receives stereo while displaying 7.1 channel.
Right click -> PROPERTIES -> Supported Formats ->
    Max number of channels: 2
    HDCP: Not Supported.
When set as default and When using noise w/7.1 in the X-FI game mode control panel it is played using speakers device and still produces sound only in the two front surrounds.

    [Sum it all up]
Games and multi-channel sounds work immediatly when using above settings and only enabling encoder -> DTSconnect -> DTSinteractive. Receiver set to direct and shows 5.1 DTS.

Otherwise with PCM over HDMI, games are stereo with approxiamtly 1-2 second sound being heard in a rear speaker when trying to generate sound while in-game - and then no more as speakers stay silent.

Also tried supplied HDMI cable. No effect.

    Don't have PowerDVD

Connection from Hometheater HD -> receiver is HDMI cable out to HDMI in on receiver.

    Onkyo 905 settings
    Resolution: 1080p [or through]
    HDMI input: IN1
    Digital input: HDMI1
    Monitor: Main

Mitsubishi HC5500 is attached to Onkyo 905 using HDMI.

Onkyo 905 is set up for 7.1 channel.

The "here's what I just added now"(*Edit: clarified it by changing it.) is my adding info for them in the support center.

Everything works through HDMI just not multi-channel for games while using PCM. At least not for me.

Waiting for them to do their thing and get back to me :)

In any case I'm happy with this card. Am still sending in the X-Meridian for the upgrade deal.

More info I just sent to Auzentech

I was viewing Amazon's downloaded tv shows and ran into the problem as well.

PCM in multi-channel is multi-channel but only with the front two surrounds being heard. Other words it is not stereo. The other channels are just not playing or being heard.

Using DDL or DTSconnect/interactive ALL channels are heard.

I also have a separate problem. When playing many of Amazon's downloaded TV shows they produce clicking on Digital Audio (HDMI). One show does playback with sound however so there's definitely something wrong there.

From what i understand about PC audio and HDMI audio, games should only work in multi channel when using analogue connections.

DTS Connect or Dolby Digital Live are needed to send 5.1 game audio over a digital connection, whether that be optical, coaxial or HDMI.

To have it in PCM 5.1, the game would have to be PCM 5.1 which no PC games are, or the card would have to real time encode to PCM 5.1, which i don't think it does, not like there would be a point anyway, PC game audio for all the games i've saw are stored as either mp3 or ogg audio files, the games would be 3times the size if it was PCM, only the PS3 does that.
So while analogue connections are the best, DTS Connect is more than enough.

It is PCM that's being used over analogue.

The whole reason PCM couldn't be used for games over digital before (and you could but you would only get 2 channels) was optical only had enough bandwidth for 2 channels. HDMI doesn't have that issue.

<- link to another forum post on pcm over optical

That's of course something I had forgotten over the years. Times change :)

DTS Connect or Dolby Digital Live are needed to send 5.1 game audio over a digital connection, whether that be optical, coaxial or HDMI.

    Nope. (Also see next.)

To have it in PCM 5.1, the game would have to be PCM 5.1

How about EAX games? Or openal games?

Yes, as far as i know, and for you too as you haven't managed it.

Your missing something, game audio isn't PCM 5.1, its analogue only, so its got nothing to do with bandwith, does the card have an option for realtime encoding into PCM 5.1?

I'm sure PCM 5.1/7.1 over HDMI is fine with DVD Audio or BluRay, i got both working in seconds with my mates Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 Deluxe, but had to set game audio to DTS Interactive the same way i do on my Xonar D2 card.

From early analog testing, this card has very good analog output.
