So there seems to be a lack of public knowlange on the i5 release, however the other day Novatech listed a desktop PC with core i5-720 2.66GHZ processor, due for release on the 8th of September. Since that the '720 2.55GHZ' has been removed but the i5 processor remains along with release countdown. Lambda-Tek.com has listed the parts and prices: Source: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=19999 It is yet to be confirmed whether these are in fact genuine but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough
P55's and the new i5/i7 are already available in my local shop. I'm just trying to sell my current mobo/cpu/ram/heatsink before I jump Priced up a system based on the Enthusiast level Asus & MSI boards and 4Gb of ram and they came out about $300 NZD cheaper than an x58/i7 920 setup.
looks nice, trying to hold out as long as I can, my little q6600 is a good girl, but im sure Im missing some preformance because of it.
Extreme edition for a none extreme socket unless there replacing skt 1336 and didn't tell us..................FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUu
lol, i even made a mistake and said i7 instead of i5,WTF is going on though, lol, these cpu's are lesser and cost more then the existing 920 which has more features? eh? jebus
Very good deal indeed... I wonder how the i7 860 performs vs. the 920 considering they are priced similarly.
the 850 and 860 beats the 920 cause they both have turbo boost that knocks the clock up to something stupid like 3.6ghz 850 and 3.83ghz for 860.... so i hear.
Yeah, but any decent enthusiast will be turning off turbo mode and overclocking that chip to a decent clock speed. I guess wot will be really interesting is how they do clock for clock vs. skt1366 i7's.
Went to Microcenter today and saw the i5 750 and i7 850 (or was it 860?) for $179.99 and $239.99 respectively (I think, it may have been $229.99). I picked up an i7 920 for $199.99 instead as, ironically, it equalled out the cost if I went with the X58 board that was on sale along with the CPU/memory sales compared to going even with the i5 750. Frankly because of the platform alone I'm much happier as it's much cheaper to run 12GB versus 16GB. In any event, I was surprised at how similar the prices were for going with any of the platforms as the AMD 965, i7 850, and i7 920 all came to roughly $50 of lowest and highest (when adding 8GB DDR3 or 12GB for X58).
lol novatech isadvertising the new i7s as LGA 1366 with triple channel mem controller.... FAIL http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?IL-I7860
