It's so tough to get an idea on whether to upgrade to newly released video drivers. That .62 thread has me confused so can't really decide. Are the 190.62s generally performing better than the .56s or no?
back when i had nv cards i found that the whql's were the best. performance wise betas sometimes gave a few fps, but would be buggy or have lower iq. really the only way to tell is to install them for your self and do some testing since different drivers can be better or worse depending on the game, os and your hardware.
Answering that question is tricky, Mr. Crab, as every system behaves a little bit different. One reason for this is the multitude of hardware and software options and configurations. In the end you will most likely have to try it out yourself if you want a definite answer. One advice though: if you're happy with the current setup - all games are working without any problems - I wouldn't update. You can't expect any major performance increases anyway, for example.
on my rig(win7 64bit rc + the stuff under my avatar) the 62s were worse. in general a little higher avg-fps, BUT more drops and lower min fps.
As most here have said, you need to test them youre self to get a hum of how they work with youre system. But for me personally, they were not that great. Immediatly I got 2 BSODĀ“s after reboot, so I went back to my favorite driver. But some just love the new driver? But I know this, as soon as you add one card more for SLI it gets much trickier to find a stable/performance driver. It is very systemd based...
Thank you guys for the helpful feedback. I use windows 7 with 6 ram on a gtx285. I am using the 62s and they seem stable enough so far on my gtx285. I am a little concerned about temps going up to 80c in cod4 so I am keeping the fan fixed at 70% only while Im playing to cod4 and then move it back to auto with rivatuner when im done and just browsing or using a less taxing game (like wow or aion). I am worried about the durability and wearing down of the card manually fixing the fan like that so im not sure what to do there. Maybe letting the card run at 80c load while on auto settings with riva is perfectly fine, just not sure.
amazingly, internet (and my own) experience dictates otherwise. it was always the whql driver with problems......
