Squall Leonhart, I´ve desinstalled chipset drivers, run driver cleaner for both chipset and video, installed Nfoce remix and had more problems now!!
After that I lost my internet conection and my Realtek sound on board is off.
Then I reinstalled the older NForce pack and the internet returned.
But sound on board has the same problem of video. I can´t install the sound drivers anymore. A message says "acess denied".
What can I do now without sound and video drivers???!!!

I´ll try after the others sugestions of Pillmonster and yleclerc.

I "went" thorough all the steps before, at that time. Nothing seemed to force XP to use anything but the VGAsave. video card drivers. A month without getting a proper dispaly was the "pits" and I need to fix it once an for all. The reinstall was the "ULTIMATE" attempt to fix, before a re-format of the system.

As with "every" Windows XP, no two are the same.

Good luck on fixing this and PLEASE post your solution. This is to help "other" people who may experience the same "issues."

The relationship between hardware and software is always the same..

    The fundamentals don't change.

I had a simular problem and had to remove the video card after uninstalling the drivers. Then installing the video card and booting up, the drivers installed with no problems.

That would make sense actually, because the OS would redetect the gfx cxard, though I'm not sure why it would need to. It's maybe possible the PCI bus needs resetting/clearing.......poss mobo on it's way out??

Happens to ram occasionally after a bad oc....don't ask me why.......

Def worth a try though, even clrcmos may work .

OP have you tried a cold restart? Or did you shut down ur PC via Windows?

EDIT: omg just saw his specs.....dude are you using a 250w PSU?

Man something don't add up here..

OP How do you know it's using the VGA driver?

yleclerc, now I can´t repair Windows XP. A message appears saying that can´t find this file: ah5pithb.sys

Do you know which file is this? I´ve already searched in motherboard CD and in my PC, but I can´t find this file.
    What a crazy thing!!: bang:

Hey mate idk the specific answer to your problem, all I can do is help you find the solution.

rebooting your pc by turning it off completely instead of just using the reset button is called a cold restart

This clears the pci bus and and ram etc. Because all power is removed from the motherboard

I'd say its time to back up any data (you can use a livedisk or bart pe disk for this) and startfresh.

somethings more then screwed up with your drivers.

Thank you all. I´m still trying to solve the problem.

Do you know what means this Windows XP message: can´t find file ah5pithb.sys
It appears when I try to repair or reinstall Windows XP.
After this message, the installation is interrupted.

I only solved the video and sound problems installing Windows Vista.
Cause my Windows XP continued having more troubles, until the OS didn´t run more.
Searching in internet, I discovered several messages of users having the same problem. They said it is a problem of Windows XP with AMD, related to onboard sound. But others had with video.
I think the problem became worse because a have a motherboard with chipset Nvidia, which drivers had problem or conflict with those of the video driver.

My "older" AGP PC is "looooong" gone. I'm using a newer C2D Duo with a PCIe video card. No issues with the "newer" nVidia drivers, besides the 190.38 "deletion" of the RUN registry key.
