I am playing the game at 2048x1536 all settings maxed and getting big drops on my fps, making it almost unplayable. When I played with the 8800GTX I did not have this issue. I can play F.E.A.R 2 fully maxed with GTX285 w/o issue. I also have problem in FarCry 2 with the GTX 285 of freezing, CTD, BSOD, etc. When I used the 8800GTX in FarCry 2 I did have some temp freezing, which sometimes got me killed, but it usually unfroze and I could continue. This is why I bought a GTX285 to resolve these issues. I have tried different drivers to no avail. It is not a heat issue as it never gets hotter than 85c. I expected much better performance, is it me or the card? Thanks
updrade ur mobo buy a separated sound card like x-fi or xoanr casue onboard use more rescues for games...or u can go to a higher model of cpu....do ever think to go to vista?
My mobo and cpu are fine.....I have Vista (dual boot) but rarely use it. The problem seems to be the card, since and older less powerful card works as well or better than the new one..................The GTX285 works fine with games like Crysis, COD WAW, F.E.A.R 2, seems to only have trouble with F.E.A.R PM and FarCry 2
I know you said you tried different drivers but this does sound like a driver issue. Also, I know (or thing I remember) there being issues with certain combo's of USB mouse/keyboard and the original FEAR. Not sure if this might be part of it or not. What I'd do is just start disabling or removing hardware to try and isolate it. Maybe disable the onboard sound completely. Perhaps move the video card to a different PCIe slot (if possible). Because of the known issue with certain USB combinations maybe I'd try hooking up a different mouse/keyboard or using different slots. Basically, it's not the video card itself - on the hardware level. It's got to be software related, or perhaps some kind of rare conflict with resources (IRQ, USB, Sound Card, etc...)
I've tried every driver from 176.xx to 190.38 with no luck. I tried no sound and moving mouse to no avail. Moving video card is not an option. I know alot of people are having the same trouble with Farcry 2, so I'm inclined to think its the game code, besides, N=neither Farcry played well with Nvidia anyways.......I buy high end cards so I can play these games at max settings. If my 8800GTX played these games with some lag, it shouldn't lag with GTX285...right??
His Mobo won't cause sudden frame drops as he's described with the differences between the 8800GTX and 295, and neither will his onboard sound card using CPU cycles... his CPU is totally fine... and you wonder why people have a go at you for making silly posts As dukedave said, i believe it does sound like a driver issue, it's very unlikely to be hardware related given what's already been said. The only thing i could suggest really is to totally clean out the nvidia drivers. Uninstall them and run driver sweeper, and then re-install. It could be just down to the age of the game and the drivers. As drivers mature, sometimes older games cease to work, and because they are no longer a priority, they go unfixed at driver level. This often happens when a new card is released. If cleaning the drivers out doesn't help, then i'd suggest stepping back to a much older driver, but that might also cause issues for recent games that you may play also... not really the best of situations.
Problem is, the older drivers won't work with my 285, I have tried every compatible driver and even some modded drivers.....I have cleaned the old drivers out every time before I install. My mobo, CPU, RAM and sound card are more than sufficient to play these games. I don't have any problems with my other games, such as, COD WAW, F.E.A.R 2, Unreal tournament 3 and Crysis.
The issue with FC2 sounds like something completely different. It's never been one of the most bug free games. You have any info on what the BSOD tells you?
Usually nv4_disp.dll I haven't tried alot of the drivers for F.E.A.R PM, cause I don't really play it that much, just played it the other day for s&^%s and giggles, that when I noticed the low fps. I did manage to get all the way through FC2, but it would be nice to fix the bugs if possible so the second play through will be better than the first...
Mine idea.....did you try lowering your clocks? Sometimes it happens that some game doesn' t work properly with highly-clocked hardware....I'm talking about graphic card... edit: I' ve seen you have also freezes...how many ampère do you have on +12 in your PSU?
try 185.85. seems to be the best driver so far for me.. make sure u use driver sweeper when installing/uninstalling drivers. in terms of performance my 285 is ofc less then my previous 295...but its been very smooth so far. played the whole of call of jaurez without a glitch. generally bsod for me have been driver issue/bad overclock (cpu/gpu). in terms of screen freezing thats mostly likely ram. but could also be related to overclock instability. i think u need to run everything at stock (cpu/ram/gpu) then report back if u are still crashing.
I already tried down clocking card to stock clocks, everything else already runs at stock, with the same results. I tried 185.85 no better +12V1@28A,+12V2@28A, +12V3@30A,
I really can' t say....I only experienced freezings when I was searching for lowest Vcore in order to undervolt my CPU....no more ideas for the moment....:nerd:
can u run occt linpack without any issues? what happens when u run 3dmarkvantage? try putting the card in a friends pc or something..if not i'd rma. if new card does the same...then look at psu being main culprit. u running off 2 seperate rails? driver sweeper done several times?
I haven't run occt linpack and vantage is for Vista, I run XP Pro. I don't have another pc to install it in as my other pc's use AGP.
