I currently have an eVGA 9600GT 512MB PCI-Express video card. I am considering getting a GTX 260 and found the following: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143140&Tpk=BFGEGTX260896OCE I know that BFG does offer "respectable" tech support but I have yet needed support for my "other" 8500GT. Would this be a "respectable" upgrade? I have limited budget.
It would be a respectable upgrade. Maybe try this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130434&Tpk=896-p3-1255-ar cheaper after rebate by a few bucks
Thanks for the suggestion. However, I live in Canada and I go through NewEgg's "Canadian" site. The BFG card is the better deal with the rebate ($160.00 CAD - 146.23 USD) versus eVGA's ($180.00 CAD - 164.71 USD.) Can anyone tell me the different between a GTX 260 and GTX 260 216?
I think you mean GTX 260 216. The 216 stands for number of stream processors. The old version of the 260 only has 192(the BFG one). The newer model has 216. I think that is why there is a price difference. You will only notice a 5-8% performance difference depending on the resolution you are running. Here is a review comparing the 2 cores: http://www.elitebastards.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=656&Itemid=29
the gtx 260 c216 has 216 processing cores so, I think they said its like 10-20% faster than the original that only had 192. Its def worth it to get the core 216.
Thanks for the info! Any recommendation on the GTX 275 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130475&Tpk=896-P3-1170-AR
I guess I should have mentioned that DVI to HDMI adapter kit in the box is a "must" for me to consider it. I'm planning to move to HDMI sometime.
BUT.. Ur CPU is killing that card =/ Upgrade phenom2 system and later GPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131381 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103649
I paid 147 euros for my GTX260 core 216 from Sparkle.. not too bad a price! .. But i geuss if you'd spend just a little bit more, a GTX275 is the best.
Very good choice... Not sure if this was mentioned, but you might want to overclock your CPU a bit towards 3GHz if you can to get the most out of your new video card. Even a "small" overclock on the CPU will help in a lot of games that are more CPU bound.
