Hello. I decided to not wait for new gen cards and purchase new GPU right now! The candidates are: - GTX275 - GTX285 - HD4890 Here are my specs: Q6600 @ 3GHz | Noctua NH-U12P; Asus P5NT WS (650i nForce) Vitesta 4GB DDR2 (800) | MSI 8800GT 512 OC (2x) | ATCS 840 Seagate Barracuda 500GB (x2) | Enermax Infiniti 720W Now, i got quite good deal on 4890, it is definitely cheapest of the 3 mentoined, but i dont know what is the performance difference, how much boost i gain, compared to my current SLi etc. I should probably note, that i play on 1920x1200 resolution - usually FPS games and MMO's. I know, that 285 is a little more expensive, but i guess i could spare some extra money, but only if the card is really worth it. I suspect there will be no straight answer and thats fine, just give me your thoughts and maybe personal experience with the cards.
I have opportunity to buy used MSI VGA N280GTX-T2D1G-SUPER OC + Accelero Xtreme GTX for 278EUR. Is that OK deal? Should be better than 4890/275 right? 700 (602 MHz stock), 1400 (1296) and 2300 (2234) MHz
you can get a gtx280, brand new for £230 so thats about 210euros http://www.microdirect.co.uk/home/p...DR3-PCI-E-Video-Graphics-Card?source=googleps but the super OC you`r basically paying for a factor overclock, i`d maybe shop around, i reckon if you wanted a gtx280, you could find a new one cheaper!
Well after i googled a bit, i heard that 280 had some issues, like heat/power consumption and 275 should beat 280, when overclocked. So i guess i'll just stick to 275/4890. And t
Alright.. i dont care that much for price, but i need to be sure that i am paying for something, that will actually have effect on performance
your running an 8800GT SLI, even the GTX285 will only give about 10-15% boost under the right conditions. I would instead say get 2 GTX260 216's for your best choice.
Don't know where you were reading. I've had zero issues with my 280 since day one. It's still better than a 260/275 & it's just barely slower than a 285 (not in anything that matters). 280 FTW. I don't know why people don't suggest it anymore. I guess cause it's still 65nm but who cares. Oh & it has a backplate. You can get a refurbed one for $225. Or like the above poster said 2 GTX 260's. This is your most powerful choice.
The GTX 280 is a nice card, I think people are confusing the launch GTX 280's when they are speaking of the overheating issues, however those issues have been corrected so any 280 right now should be fine. As for the GTX 280 being better than the 275 its really close, both cards trade blows with each other by a frame or two in gaming benchmarks. Honestly I cant recommend the GTX 280 over a 275 when you can sometimes snatch up a brand new GTX 275 for $199.99 along with a free game.
1GB of VRAM. Just sayin. I'll never get a gfx card with less from this point out. It really shouldn't be more expensive than a 275 though.
I'v read that over some forums. I know that it is not gonna be huge upgrade for me, but i'd rather keep single card, since i only have 2 PCI slots and i want to get sound card. Also my 8800's exhoust hot air into the case, which is not helping keeping my CPU cool. I'd wait for next gen cards, but we dont know yet, when they gonna release it. Could be long long waiting.
Umm.. Actually, I think they were supposed to release new cards in October... That's for ATi, but nVidia should release theirs next year or something...
Dont know much about ATi cards / when they get released and what they are about. But generally new released cards are too expensive, thats another thing.
The extra Vram will only benefit you at resolutions over 1920X1200, anything at that resolution or less and the two cards are neck and neck with the 275 coming out on top more times than not.
yeah, the GTX 275 is equal to (or slightly better than) the 280 at 1980x1200. With the 275 being $60 to $100 USD less than the 280, it's a no-brainer If you are coming from 8800GT's, you'll appreciate how quiet the 275 is, and how much cooler it will run compared to the 8800s. I recently upgraded from a single 8800GT to a GTX275, and am very happy with the results.
