EDIT: Too fast again. They are not the 8.603 drivers.

i cannot get it working

Hi wesley8,

i´ve first tried as you suggested to run normal setup but it gave me an error that the hardware or software components cannot be detected. (XP64)

Then i´ve did a forced install of the display driver using "Have disc" method and rebooted. It detected the HD4870 1GB as FireGL8700, but acceleration is not there.

So I´ve installed your CCC for XP64 as well without much difference. Here is my result, it is similar to gellmars result:

It looks like it doesn`t work with my HD4870 1GB. :bang: Before installation using "Have disk", i rebooted in save mode and removed CAT 9.1 and deleted all ATI folder i find.

Can you please make it work ?

I had my cpu OC to 3.6 now(was 3.2 for saving power). But the results are not much difference. Only the AA performace had different

 

gellmars and I will working on it. Because I didn't test the XP64 Mod. Also I was remarks at the rar file.

 

There is a problem with x64 drivers so far, and now I try to resolve this with my strapper driver. However, I have received the PM from user DakBurlak with these results on XP64:

I don't know his config but I assume the mod works only with the cards SIMILAR (by memory amount) to the FireGL ones.

Anyway I'm keeping this stuff up and running. If I solve this problem, I will post a new mod.

 

Great work you guys! Its good to see some success after a while. When you get the kinks worked out of he 4xxx and the 3xxx series could you include mods for the 2xxx series as well, please and thanks.

So it looks like the days of patch scripts are gone? Only pre-modded drivers form now on?

That's possible. Because ATI planning to release V8700 duo(R700 based).

Someone's picture, but untest it.

 

good to know, my 2nd 3870 can finally be used as 7700 as well rather than just sitting there doing nothing when i switch to xp64

@gellmar: i`m using 1GB version like the original V8700, i see wesley8 got 512MB version of 4870 which is different.

I successfully installed the driver and got huge improvements. Thanks a lot.

One small question here. The driver installer is supposed to use ati2mtag.sy_ if there is. Considering the date .sy_ file seems to be the original and .sys file to be the modded one. So if I install without renaming sys to sy_ then unmodded file will be used. Actually I did the renaming and it worked.

So question summary here: aren't we supposed to switch sy_ and sys?

ps. I want to attach screenshot of my result but I don't see a button to attach image. How did you guys do that? I only see attaching from "http://..." but I don't have web server.

 

I have removed original ati2mtag.SY_ and replaced with the ati2mtag.sys from gellmaR and modified the INF and put in the proper ID (9501) for HD3870 and it doesn't recognize it.

Someone please help.

 

argh, i have not seen that, there is ati2mtag.old too I will try again and rename as you made.

Please let us know how much RAM your card is and if you have made install using setup.exe or "have disc" method.
