ok i tried to enable AO with cod4 and codWaW with the new 185.85 WHQL drivers, but it doesnt seems to work.
i took screen shots, compared them and there is absolutely NO changes.
with the beta 185.68 it was the same thing either.

thats why i wonder if there are some other settings we need to change for AO to work ?
maybe some ingame settings or in the nvidia CP ?

i dont get why it wouldnt work, im on vista 32bit btw, and yes, i got AO turned on for cod in the CP, or is there something im missing ? or its sounds like a hardware problem ?

any help/advices would be greatly appreciated as i really wanna try this feature.

try nhancer 2.5.1 and then enable it by profile, you will see it AO is not ticked, only supported and the right AO profile selected now enable it completely.

Works for me with Far Cry 2. I'll give CODWAW a shot later.

I had the same problem. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your drivers and see if that helps.

it's normal because AO is much heavier than AA or TAA. ;)
I got same drop fps. :)

Recommend for AO: gtx280 or new chip gt300 or better! :)

Ambient Occlusion is a waste of time IMO as the visual difference is only slight while you're playing yet the framerate penalty is often severe. I can't say I've really noticed AO in-game at all and to appreciate the differences you tend to have to stare at comparison screenshots with the effect on and off, and quickly switch between them!

i can post the ss if u wanna see, but as its exactly the same, ...
what the hell is wrong ?

i can agree it may be a waste of time, as it will drop my fps too much, but if it doesnt work, there must be something wrong with the card, the drivers, the way those are installed, or something else
also i dont have the CP in the taskbar on this vista 32bit, im not sure its normal or not as im new to vista and its a fresh install.
but i have the nvidia CP in the windows control panel.

Only games i've noticed AO in are the source engine games - But thats because the engine is getting dated now to begin with. Most other games, it's a complete waste.

If AO is activated correcly additional shadows will show up which are quite nice (to my mind for example in Left 4 Dead).

For some reason AO does only work on my system if I activate it in the nvidia control panel under the global settings. If I use nhancer or the nvidia panel and try to turn AO on via the single game profiles it does not show up in the game.

    Perhaps this helps.

You need to enable the "override predefined settings" option.

Don't stress about it the NCP is broken anyway with this set. I don't trust NCP anyway.

I´m having the exactly same problem here. I had and old 185.xx (beta) installed (it had AO, but the options had been already removed, I could choose only between on and off, as it is now). Today I installed 185.85, thinking the AO would work, as it isn´t beta anymore. I took some Counter Strike Source screenshots (with it on and off under global settings) and they were THE SAME! I know it drops perfomance, but my rig is very powerful and the source engine isn´t very heavy, and the games I most play are TF2, CSS, HL2DM, etc. Help Please.

I think AO for shadows is the equivalent of HDR for lighting. Agree?
