I don't think it is the drivers but now that I installed the new betas my desktop is stuck on default monitor. I can't change anything, resolution, refresh, nada. It let's me select whatever but does not actually change it. I can't get it to recognize my Sony G500 CRT at all. I can't find a download for the Sony driver that does not direct me to driverdoctor lol.

In game, no problems. None. Resolution goes up to where it should be and I think the refresh is ok too.

Wtf is this? So annoying to have BIG 640x480 desktop. You can't browse with it. I am on my laptop just to post this.

running XP pro updated to latest.

The problem is that I cannot get drivers for my Sony G500 CRT. I am stuck with 640x480 16 bit. XP does not recognize my monitor as anything but default or plun n play lol.

WTF nvidia? Make it more difficult please. Not like I am a noob and I have never seen this issue.

Try the edit key next time. All my monitors are detected as Generic PnP monitors and therefore use the default driver provided by windows. And they let me change resolution, color, etc.

Was the monitor previously detected properly with different drivers?

I'll try my Xp disk I guess. Nothing else works. Tried forcing a custom resolution in nvidia control but NOPE.

Games run fine at proper res. wtf?

It worked fine before yes. It also properly detected the G500 as just that. Now? pfffft.

How can I game at 1600x1200 w/ all the eye candy etc and I STILL can't get the desktop to do anything but 640x480????

lol my goodness. now I remember why I quit tweaking.

I also tried the previous drivers after cleaning with NFR and registry mechanic and two reboots.

This issue seems to have come up with the new drivers. I am not the only one. Going to reset cmos and unplug the monitor from the 280 and switch outputs.

You do realize that 182.46 is beta for a reason?

    THANKS for the "help"

YES I understand it is a ****ing beta. I have tried reverting to my previous drivers to no effect. Nothing has worked nor will it.

    Did you follow this procedure?

    1. Uninstall your current driver.
    2. Restart and boot into safe mode (F8).
    3. Run Driver Sweeper and maybe even CCleaner.
    4. Restart and boot to the regular desktop.
    5. Install the new driver.
    6. Restart.

In case you're getting an error message when you try to install the driver, decompress it with a tool like 7-Zip, delete the PhsyX installer from the folder and just start the setup.exe in the decompressed driver folder...

Besides: did you try a previous restore point, already? If all of the above isn't helping, I'm afraid you'll have to re-install your OS. :frown:

Yes I did thanks for constructive help. I have been building since 386 days and never seen this.

I do believe a re-install is the only solution b/c even system restore did not solve this.

Games work FINE, hell better than before but change the desktop? lol NOPE.

Went to see my guru who has owned his PC repair business for 20 yrs. He has never seen anything like it.

I would bet my life it is the beta drivers or something happening during the uninstall process.

Anyway, upgrading to Vista 64 and maybe doing a dual boot for XP pro.

So there is no solution. Re-install OS.
