Bios for speeds and Overdrive for fiddling with voltages to gain stability here then back to bios for a lock.

    I'm 1hr Prime stable at 3.6GHZ on x4 cores with my 720B.E on a Gigabyte Ds4h.

Max overclock on 4 cores so far.

    Thanks man.

For the Suicide Run I gave it 1.525V.

What chip was the 720 made as originally?
    the 940 with an underclock?

I heard that the all the x3 chips were x4 that had failed on one core on the inhouse testing so amd deactivated the "broken" core and still sold it off

Thanks for the props guys. I'm glad I got a good OC'er this time.
My last chip the 9950 B.E couldnt touch 3.5GHZ no matter what voltage.
I'm glad I got a good clocker this time around.

BTW I managed to cross the 4.GHZ barrier with 1.575V
    4.07GHZ on x4cores

I'm thinking of getting one of these and I was wondering what how easy it would be to achieve 3.5ghz on a BE, also I'd spend about £40 on a cooler, any suggestions of which cooler to get?

All 4 cores 3.6Ghz with an Arctic Cooler Freezer 64 Pro which are less than £20 and it runs cool

Most 720's get 3.4GHz-3.6GHz. A few get a bit higher. And even fewer get the 4th core unlock stable.

Yup he is correct, I see alot of 3.8GHZ stable on x3 cores as well.

I'm neck to neck with the 940B.E in benchies, with my 4th core unlocked. It can even clock higher than a few 940's.
The advantage is you can use your 720 on DDR3 motherboards, and the 940 is stuck with ddr2 setups.

It's not like having a DDR2 setup is a bad thing. The performance gains of DDR3 still doesn't justify the cost of owning a DDR3 setup.

So for now, a DDR2 setup is perfectly acceptable. Heck, I have an AM3 processor on a DDR2 setup and it works great!

Yes you are right, But I mean if you are upgrading in steps. Which is what I do.
The smarter thing would be to get a 720, or 810. That way you can piece away at DDR3 setups.
If he opts for a 940, he is getting an amazing processor. But when the time comes he will have to buy a new rig. The whole 9 instead of already having a Sweet AM3 ready CPU.

I'm not saying any choice is the better choice, I like to push hardware and see what it can do so i'm always switching gear.
