I'd like to ask if an X3 720 BE is a worthy upgrade from a 9950BE which I currently have.... I bought my 9950 for $281, and the X3's being sold for $154 in here. I have a 3D Mark score of 14K with my current setup, and I wonder if an X3 720 could pull it higher with some OC.
Sounds weird, but it's alright, it will be a better upgrade. However, when it comes to heavily threaded applications, it will lose out. For gaming, it's a better bet. deltatux
I wouldn't say worthy, just a tiny bit better. Wait for a Phenom II 955, then that's saying something!
I would keep the 9950 and upgrade to the 955 if itz a BE when it comes out, like deltatux said u'll lose the advantage you have in multithreaded apps, all depends whether u believe games etc will become more and more mutithreaded, I have a 9850 and don't believe getting a 720 is a big enough upgrade to justify me spending the cash
You will definitely experience a large jump from Phenom to Phenom II. Just because of the architectural redesign (K10 vs K10.5) and a better yield when it comes to clockspeed. deltatux
I switched from a 9950B.E to a 720B.E, and well the 9950 cant hold a candle to any of the benchmarks scores I can hit with my 720. Also I maxed out my 9950 @ 3.2GHZ Stable 3.3GHZ max benchable 3.4GHZ max oc. 720 hits stable 3.6GHZ 3.9GHZ max benchable, I mean like 3d06, Wprime etc. 4.07GHZ max oc _All that on four core_ havent tried x3_ im sure it'll be higher_ Also the 9950 runs hot like an oven load temps @ 1.5V 60C+ With the 720 load temps @ 1.5V 42C+. Using my AC Freezer Xtreme on both and same mobo. 14544 3d06 V-modded 8800gt 792-2000-900 and my 720 @ 3.8GHZ on X4 cores. P.S. You also might get lucky like me and have one that will have a stable 4th core
