I don't see how the HD 4750 could outperform the HD 4850, it can get very close once it's overclocked, but remember that the HD 4850 has full 800 stream processors, in theorical raw power, the HD 4750 will have to run at 785Mhz core to make it up with the stream processors deficit, but you can also overclock the HD 4850 and get higher performance. In the end what ATi wants is to offer the performance of a $150.00 videocard for less than $100.00. Looks like X800XL/X1950PRO all over again, low price, new manufacturing process and most of the performance of their high end brothers..., after all most of the sales are in the midrange and low end market.
it would not make a differance these cards are hardly going to bottleneck any cpu. you should be able to ring thses puppies out no matter what rig
the only thing i meant by that was theoretically the "4750" should be able to overclock a lot more then a 4850 should, since it's 40nm, but only time will tell, and from what i saw, this card was inbetween a 4830 and a 4850, so for instance, and these numbers are just 100% random numbers don't think anything of it, but if a 4850 can OC 10%, well that's good, but if the "4750" can OC 25~%, because of it being on 40nm, then, again, "theoretically" it should out perform the 4850 even if the 4850 is OC'd Again these are just theoretical things, no facts here other then a 4850 is 55nm and a "4750" is 40nm, and only time will tell how well they will overclock
again, there won't be any difference, since they are all done on the same computer it's showing the same difference between the cards and that's all that matters, aka "this card is this much better then this card" or "this card is this much worse then this card", i think you forget that unless the graphics card is being bottlenecked, then the only thing 99% of the time that'll matter in a game is the GPU, so it doesn't matter and coming into these forums and screaming at people isn't a very good start
yeah, but nvidia is so not cool, no open source drivers or specs like everyone else is doing. all the fiascos don't help either 8400/8600, nforce2/vista, very hard to get the correct drivers for older cards... i'm planning to get a new gpu, but nvidia is not on my list. not even recommending it to anyone who asks me nowadays ...
this is a little faster than the 9800gt though, and quite a bit in some games. I'm missing where being the same price but slower is somehow good for the 9800 i guess
Yeah, that's what kills me on this article. Great overview, but I'm dying to know the power consumption on this. Especially now that we have some single-slot 4830s hitting the market. So...yeah, this card basically ties up a 4830 when it doesn't beat it in performance. That's great unless it also consumes more power. The die shrink SHOULD help, but word I've heard is that the 40nm process is 'very leaky', which is why the reference HSF is dual-slot and the card still requires an external power adapter. (Heck, the reference cooler on the HD 4850 wasn't even dual-slot!) Performance is one thing (and this article nailed that fairly well), but heat and power are also pretty big concerns.
My local pc shop is taking pre-orders for this card. They say they will have stock before the end of this month. Can we have power consumption and overclock numbers now ? :sleep2:
According to AMD slides, the card will draw 80 watts. It will require a power connector on the 4770 and according to Fudzilla the 4750(to stay on the safe side).
80w load, what about idle ? most gddr5 is rated at 4000, can we reach that or above with this card or does it have voltage limitations? there is still a lot of stuff to know...
8800GT was just ahead of its time, should have never been called 8800GT, should have been 9800GT from the get go.

Expreview has a Vantage benchmark up, 3-4% slower than the 4850. They've apparently got a full review incoming.
