He's like nick, I have 4k to burn and I want to spend it all. So I thought.. what would I get myself? I expect around 4ghz on the core but I am nervous about the PSU. I feel like I might be stretching it at only 1200watts.
Great, i just hate the sound card/motherboard/ssd brand. For SSDs, i prefer OCZ... sound card should be an auzen/creative.... motherboard? i suppose DFI is ok but ASUS might be more up your alley.
monitor is his hd tv. i have had a number of bad business and personal experiences with OCZ and their habit of not providing value products that work to the specified specs, their RMA department, and their sales department. Even my own computers memory that I got back after a long annoying hassle when they died dont run to spec. Asus support sucks, my experience with their highest end products are ok but I have a vendetta against them for **** products they made 5 years ago. I have a fantastic experience with DFI. Their products are stellar, there is a fleet of users and support at your disposal, and their rma process doesn't leave me wondering whether the part im getting back works. I do not like creative, their drivers dont do it for me. I have no experience with auzen. the specified sound card is pretty damn good for a decent price. i made a mistake, i wanted the DFI LP UT X58-T3eH8 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
I'm jealous. Sure he/you wouldn't rather go with 3 GTX 285's? Cost doesn't seem to be much of an issue, and if it is you could drop half the RAM and go a little easier on the storage to cover the difference
The problem with tri SLI is that there is no other room for anything else and I believe the lanes get knocked down to 16/8/8. The storage there is basically going to be the minimal thing here. Everything in windows and certain games will be lightning quick, and then there is the big storage of 1tb with redundancy since those things seem to be droppin like flies lately. The drivers for tri-sli have been getting better with each release and I have seen them work in just about every game i tried 1st hand with forced alternate frame rendering without a hitch. The ram will be a big thing for ram drives to have pretty much instant loading in multiplater games and virtual machines Yes DFI says SLI is supported with the mobo =) He cant spend anymore than 4k (think after taxes and shipping). What I would like opinions on are the heatsink, psu, and chassis. The chassis needs to look good, not too flashy but has some flare, have great air flow without a hurricane, and a enough room for everything mentioned and expansion. feel free to post up pics and models. I never really cared about visuals and got a sturdy thermaltake matrix with permeated bezel.

I have Mushkin HP2-6400 in my Pc and friend got XP2-8500. Working fine. Also I have seen quite many memory reviews about Mushkin's products and all have been positive.
Pretty nice picks. The only alternative I could advise would be a Xonar DX if you don't need lots of connectors.
only thing i would change is the air cooler. with that kind of money i would look at waer to cool the i7 or a better air cooler. i agree with you on the motherboard great choice love dfi. I do not know about the quad sli. if it was me i would not do it stick with 1 295 or 2-285s i would prefer the 285s. if he is on an hdtv then the res is 1920 which one will run everything fine without the additional headaches of quad sli. hell 1-285 is fine at the resolution. also maybe look at the intel ssds if you cut out 1 295 should be able to do it
As you can see, I have the D2 and it's been working flawlessly from the very start. I too was unsure about the build quality, but it's turned out to be good. Besides, Asus has a nice support policy, meaning you will always get driver updates when something needs to be fixed. The only downside is, the D2 gets pretty hot — got no idea about the DX though. Oh, and you need a floppy connector for the DX. One last remark: both the HT Omega and the Xonar sport a C-Media chip.
Mistake there's known stuttering issues in Quad Sli and vids on youtube to prove this. Be better off with tri 280/285's. Also why not put this 4k towards your cats medical bills haha
