Hey guys, I've got a quick question, if I could get some input that would be great!

My harddrive in my system seems to be struggling these days so I plan on buying a new one but I am at the point where I want to upgrade but don't have the money to do a full system. I'd like to prolong the life of my current system (see specs) and I'm wondering if adding another 1Gb of RAM would give me anything?

Let me know your opinions, thanks!

Yes it would help out. And DDR2 is dirt cheap.

It's a real shame that you're using an old DDR model, because the new one's are as kRze said dirt cheap. But the older one's will be a bit trickier to find and will cost more... But you'll definetely feel the difference in games and other applications.

It's actually going to be pretty costly to do that upgrade. DDR memory is expensive.

Alright, thanks for the input guys! I think I may just wait a bit longer until I can rebuild.

Well, a stick of 1 GB is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146545 ($33 USD)

    A pair of 1GB would be $68: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220079

    Another quick question..

I think I may go ahead and do the upgrade so I don't have to rebuild for a bit longer.

Would it be more worth my while to dish out and get another 80Gb Raptor or should I just get a cheaper larger capacity drive?

Also, would it be a good idea to just buy the 1Gb stick and add it or should I get 2 identical 1Gb sticks and get rid of the current 2x512Mb I'm using?

    Thanks again!

I never really saw a need for faster RPM HDD, standard 7200rpm does the job quite nicely.

Well too late! Hehe, I just ordered some OCZ Platinum 2Gb PC3200 and a WD RE3 250Gb SATA 3.0Gb drive. Total $140 w/ Free 2nd Day. The other brand memory wasn't much cheaper so I went with the OCZ.

Since I did purchase the 2x1Gb Dual Channel kit would it be possible to match my XLPRO with the new OCZ timing and have a total of 3Gb since my XLPRO 2x512Mb is a Dual Channel kit as well or would that put things in a pickel?

I think it should be fine.

Is there a certain configuration I should put the sticks in?

Currently I've got it setup kinda like this...

    Io Io

Can I just add the two new sticks or should I pair them each right next to each other instead of alternating like this...

    II ii

    or

    Ii Ii

To have them running in dual channel, stick the OCZ 1GB sticks in the blue slots. And stick the XLPRO in the Black slots.

    Ii Ii <- (I=OCZ, i=XLPRO)

They might not work together though, but they should.
