    Hey.
I've recently got 2GB ram, DDR2 800MHz. But it's working on something around 667Mhz as the pc tells me. I know this reduction is due to my CPU's low FSB (500Mhz). But is there a way to remove the cap on ram's speed and make it run at it's own 800Mhz? and if there is a way, would it be safe according to the gurus' recommendations?
    thanx a lot in advance.

Link to the RAM you have bought? Also what program are you using to see what your RAM speed is? CPUZ?

You can go into your BIOS and set your RAM freq to what you want, make sure you set up the right voltage for it as well.

I saw the speed in mobo's bios. RAM freq was on AUTO mode, but I seem to be able to change it. So why does auto-mode not pick the highest possible speed? btw, how should I know what changes I should make to the voltage?

Solidsnake, it's very simple to up your RAM frequency in the BIOS, and since your FSB is 500MHz, you can technically run up to 1000MHz RAM (although not on those sticks). Shouldn't be a problem.

As for the voltage, search Google for the specific model name/number of your RAM and look at the specs. It should tell you there how much voltage you need to run your particular RAM properly.

Well sometimes the BIOS sets it lower then what it suppose to be running at when you have AUTO selected. Thats why it is always good to know how to use your BIOS and input the default freq/volts on your own.

If you have 800MHz, set the RAM Freq to 400MHz and your voltage should be 1.8-2.1 depending on what your manufacturer recommends. Look up your RAM on your manufactuers webpage for correct voltage.

You might want to look to see if your timing are right as well, if they are set on AUTO.

Please remember, system will automatically use lowest mhz if there are different rams in the slot.. ie: you have 2 x 800 ghz rams in slot 1 and slot 2, and you have 2 x 533 mhz rams in slot 3 and slot 4.. system will use 533 mhz for all rams.

    Thanks.
I got the voltage requirement from the website, using the exact model I have. But it doesn't say anything about the timings. I wonder if I should change them.

Your motherboard does not support DDR2 800mhz thats just a guess anyways.

my mobo's manual says: Memory support: DDR2 667/533 (Over spec up to 800)

Which model motherboard do you have?

I'll jump in a debate so I don't need to open a new thread :)

I have 6GB of 800MHz ram and CPU-Z is only showing my 400MHz. How come ?

In Memory tab under the Timmings in DRAM Frequency it says 400.9MHz.

    DDR2 = 400 X 2 = 800Mhz.

    You're fine.

I didn't notice. in mobo's manual it said in order to go 800 MHz I should manually set the frequencies for both FSB and RAM, so I set the FSB at 533 and RAM at 800. It's working. I left the timings on AUTO.
