the first computer i played games on was a toshibia with a pentium 100 and 16mb of ram it ran windows 3.1 which was amazing in its day and i played pacman and prince of persa was brilliant and no im not as old as u might think i am. ooo i also remember 5 1/4" floppys who remembers those??
re Been playing games since 1981(atari era/Golden age)..to the present day...i have literally seen everything Im 34 years old
I started on a Commadore 64 back in the 80's. Just recently I downloaded an emulator for a little classic gaming. Games like Ghettoblaster and Lazy Jones will always have a special place in my heart. I remember using a hole punch to protect 5 1/4 floppies from getting overwritten. It was a simpler time....
Some guys may find it silly, but i'm really glad i saw your post. I feel exactly the same. Our story can't be easily explained, the only ones that completely understand us are other PC gamers, like on Guru3d. Conversation with other true pc gamers can't be replaced, console guys are completely ok, but they ARE a different story.
Meh! im just a gamer in general. i got 4 consoles besides my pc. i even enjoy board games, card games, or rubic cube
To me PC gaming is like driving a car with a manual transmission whereas consoles are like automatics. They both get you where you need to go but the manual has a bit of a learning curve and maybe more trouble than people want to deal with just to get from point A to point B. However if you don't mind the extra work or even enjoy it, the manual transmission will offer a higher level of control making the trip a bit more enjoyable. @WhiteLighting You ARE cool for owning the Power Cartridge! I always wondered what that slot on the back of the keyboard was for.
PC gaming is what driving the technology forward for the consumer market and I am thankful for that. BUT look at the difference between 1985 and 1995, HUGE difference in graphics. Now look at the difference between 1995 and 2005, much improvement on computer specs but graphics just got more effects, I think we are slowing down real hard.
des INSTRUCTIONS EN FRANCAIS omg I need it, it has french instructions !!! je vous enmerde et je m'entourne a ma maison
well , it woudnt surprise me if it was worth allot of money nowadays. but i can send you the ROM if you want lol, its not the same though this thing was even cooler. with it i could program demos, music etc lol
For real? Look at those: 1995: (Need for Speed) today: (Need for Speed Undercover) 1995: (Battle Isle 2220) today: (Red Alert 3)
my first "computer game" was pong or telly tennis as I called it Then came pac-man, space invaders etc. Then onto "PC" games with Jet set willy, manic miner, bomb jack and chuckie egg ( I still pwn at chuckie egg btw ) Then it just went haywire and gaming went into overdrive......way too many to even think of listing. Hardcore gamers FTW  from this.... to this.....
Haha! I'm only 28 but I remember my first "Hardcore" gaming PC... I believe it was a Pentium 100... not sure about that.. it might have been a later processor. but it was UBER!! It had a Riva TNT and the piggyback voodoo card!!!! Also I was running 128mb of RAM... which everyone thought was totally rediculous overkill. To be honest that rig was built for me by an older computer guru (my brother in law). I didnt really learn about building gaming PC's till much later... around the time the Geforce 3 was out. My first computer was a Tandy Colorcomputer (186?) somethink like that.. from radioshack. There were cartridge games.. but most of my games were on audio tapes... I needed one of those big ol cassette recorders hooked up to the computer to play them. Lots of text based games too. I wasnt allowed to have a console till much later.. I eventually wound up with a sega genesis.. and eventually upgraded it with the ill fated sega CD and then the even worse fated 32x upgrade. I havent owned a console SINCE genesis tho... all about PC's ever since. =)
That's some serious CPU bottlenecking. Did pentium 100 boards have AGP already? Seems like such a waste there...(the pentium2 400mhz was already available at the introduction of the Riva TNT)
I just called my brother in law.. it was a P200 with a Riva 128 (not a TNT) and a Voodoo card and 128 mb of RAM. I did have a P100, but this was after that.
That's pretty powerful. The Riva 128 was the first card to actually come close to 3Dfx levels. But didn't have Glide.....
unfortunately I didnt get an upgrade after that for quite a while.. I dont now that it was that machine but I remember trying to play Everquest I... lag was so bad I would have to try three or four times to get up the elevators in Kelethin forest.. when it went up I would usually lag through the floor of it and wind up on the ground. I couldnt have been getting more then a few FPS. I built a new machine though when Luclin came out.. that might have been the first I did myself dont remember for certain.
