Hello fine folks! I'm building a new PC and i need some advice. First here are the links to my desired gear (not purchased yet) RAM: mushkin 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail mushkin 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226030 CPU: Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202 BOARD: EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188039 Current setup: My monitor is a 32inch Sony XBR 1080p TV. (****ing kick ass btw ). I currently am using a single 8800GT bios modded by me.I use a DVI > HDMI adapter. CPU: Opteron 185 2x 2.6 RAM: Kingston DDR 3200 HyperX 4GB 2/3/2/6 MOBO: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe I have maxed out the 939 form factor. I cant upgrade anymore. For parts that are about 3 years old they perform extremely well. I have no complaints about the system other then 1080P HD video (without a special codec that uses dual core) playback and Crysis. It is playable but not maxed. What i want: I want to be able to play Crysis Warhead on Vista x64 Business with all settings (AA AF RES etc) maxed out at around 50fps. Price inst very critical but i would rather not spend an arm and a leg. I also am not sure if my goal is achievable yet with the current hardware. I would be willing to do SLI or CrossFire but i would not purchase all the cards in the same day. Please reply if you have some ideas.
Everything looks in check i think GTX285 SLI would be the best to hope for intill the new gpus come out
So you would recommend nvidia over ATI? I have always been an NV fan myself i am just not up to date on current performance stats other then what i read on G3D's reviews.
for crysis, crossfire doesn't seem to work well. I'd say nVidia if that is the game you are basing your decision on. 2X GTX285s would be very good
Both are great. How ever, HD4870X2 will beat the GTX 295 because the 295 will miss some vram on that kind of high resolution. I guess Quad HD4870X2 would be your choice, or either single HD4870X2.
Thing is about the 2X5 cards is ... Remember the 7950X2 that came out? like 10 people bought it and there was no performance increase over the regular 7950... Thats the worries i have with the 2X5 cards...
wait for more gtx295s to be realesed, then hook up a pair of em, look on guru of 3d gtx295 vs 4870x2 crossfire: http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-295-quad-sli-gaming-test/9 hopefully that will clear some things up
