Until 8.12. Ati is catching up pretty fast!

i had no problems with nforce4 chipset on dfi, perfectly stable, and great performance
(later i bought p35 only cos it was much cheaper than nf6) :)

most of the sti drivers suck. when playing battlefield 2142, the screen will go black for a few seconds then go back to normal every few minutes, but if i swap out my 3850 and put in my 6800, it runs great with no problem

ati needs to make drivers that have proper support for battlefield 2142, fallout 3, second life (and every other opengl game/app)

Seems AMD/ATI really wants to keep 9.1 hidden for now....but, if it's really 8.561.3, that would make it older than the 8.12hotfix which is 8.651.8...which would actually prevent it from installing on systems running the 8.12hotfix, as the installer would see it as being an oudated driver.

i know i was just drunk and mad at ATI when i wrote that. lol the only thing i need to understand is that when i spent almost 700 bucks on my 7950gx2 all i got was some washed out looking graphics. I almost put my x800 back in that rig. colors look more vivid with ATI i just wish they would spend more man hrs. on there drivers.

Well, in ~50% of all games tested it is.

Yes, that is true. And since it is a high-end card, 1280*1024 and 1680*1050 results don't really matter. 112.9% 4870 X2 performance compared to the 100% from GTX295 on 2560*1600 4xAA / 16xAF is really good. But there were some dips on lost planet: colonies. Crysis however, showed really nice results.

Pretty nice for 4870 chips less then half the size of the GTX295 chips! I was wondering whether they retested the other cards like the single 4870/4850/4830 on the 9.x drivers too. Tbh, I don't think so.

    Must....find....9.1 beta.....dying lol

Thats pretty much why I picked up this X48 instead of an Nforce 7 :) Was with Nforce since NF4 tho.... it was a good run.... maybe their next offerings will lure me back... unless they really are movin out of the mobo \ chipset sector. Would certainly explain why the X58 can run both Xfire and SLi.

I might be blind with excitement but theres no links to DL this right?

This is killing me....oh where oh where can I find this driver?! lol

I dont think so either. Only cuz on the X2 it indicates that the driver is 9.x and no such mention with the 4870 single

I'm gonna see what I cant dig up.... I'd be floored if I found the beta but I'll check in a few dark corners and under a few rugs... might get lucky. I been usin an official driver for too long....its....gross lol

    NEED BETA!

Heard the beta testers should get the 9.1's tomorrow, so could be leaked then.

For some reason, I don't see a huge performance increase coming with 9.1....if 9.1 gets dropped to beta testers tomorrow, I'm sure someone will post it....personally, I'm waiting on 9.2 Cats now...lol

"Huge" is relative. There are substantial increases in many titles. Most impressive in Crysis... not that I care for that game anymore though.

Aside from a few reviews on sites done in languages I can't read...has anyone actually gotten their hands on these 9.1 Cats yet? Until someone on this forum can verify the performance improvement, I'll stick to my belief that those "benchmark tests" are unproven.

I think with catalyst 9.1 I may actually try Crysis: Warhead on my HD3870 since I skipped it thinking I will play it on new GPU but there were not much reasons to buy new GPU so I will just play it now and not wait till I get bored wit computer games altogether(read: getting old LOL, now I'm 23) :D

Hopefully 9.1's will bring some performance increases.

I don't want to get my hopes up but I really think that the 4870x2 could either match or come very close to GTX295 performance. Especially since its using GDDR5 and not GDDR3, I still think there is more performance to be squeezed out of it.

Like everyone else Im looking forward to 9.1 but I dont think that they will bring huge performance increases.

It's not a beta, but an altered 8.12 hotfix which implement multi-core performance increases!
