    half-step between GT200b and GT300

According to a recent report from Hardware-Infos, the specifications of Nvidia's coming flagship 40nm GT212 architecture have been identified and revealed from unnamed sources near Nvidia, as usual. To start matters off, GT212 is the successor to 55nm GT200b which is currently rolling into production. In comparison, the upcoming architecture is essentially following two similar footsteps of 65nm G92 last March - a die shrink to a smaller fabrication process and a decrease in memory interface width.

i'm glad you posted this here a.f
    i have question.
you think the launch dates are correct? or just close, give or take a month?

when it would come with 2 Gb memory,we can play at least Crysis smooth with 8*AA :)

I speculated these launches dates myself, based on how long the 9800GX2 lasted last year (r.i.p. March 18, 2008 - June 17, 2008) - three months (and not performance wise, but until its GTX 200 successors were released).

Not that I intend to say the GTX 295 will be short-lived, but the way that NVIDIA is pushing for 40nm to stay ahead of the competition makes me want to believe that April to May could in fact be true.

Is the gddr5 that much faster that they can get rid of the 512mb bus?

if this is at all true the 212 is going to be a beast of a card. 50% more shading power and more transistors on a smaller die. unbelievable what a die shrinkage can do. plus a smaller bus with gddr5 memory. i wonder how fast this thing will be clocked.

If it really is that small it should cost much less than GTX 280 or even GTX 260.

also the 256bit bus is much cheaper to manufacture than the 512 bit. depending on price, i may be going back to nV.

    Oops, I win the bet :p :

And I bet now that will be really expensive betwen 500-400$.

Anyway I´ll not buy this card, is better wait 5 moths and go to DX11 support.

I think DX11 will be nice, but just like DX10 we wont see any games for some time, the first DX11 cards probly wont play the games very well like the first DX10 ones did.

Why can't they keep 512bit BUS w/ GDDR5? Why did they have to drop it back down to 256bit? I understand the gains from GDDR5, but it would have been even more with 512bit BUS.

The switch to a 256-bit bus reduces the complexity of the PCB, which means lower manufacturing costs for Nvidia and *hopefully* lower retail costs for consumers.

Besides, the bandwidth between 512-bit GDDR3 and 256-bit GDDR5 doesn't make much of a difference to be honest.

Also lower interface means they have more room to add SP's to the die since 256bit takes up alot less space than 512bit interface.
