I had a E6300 and GTX 260 and the game run pretty "slow"... slow as in when night time came in the city the lights utterly murdered my frames down to 5 or so fps.

So I spent $1000 and upgraded my cpu/mobo/ram and the difference is night and day. The game never dips below 40 Frames now unless its nightime, and in a traffic jam with max settings and even there the game is still playable.

    I run the game @ 1680 x 1050 with max settings.

I was more annoyed than you could believe. I awaited this game for a long time and was extremely upset when it ran the way it did- and some how I rationalized to myself that buying the new tech now would benefit me in the long run, not just now. So I did.

wow, 1 grand for a game, 360 is only $200
cause the main difference is a bit better graphics and i cant see how graphics alone are worth $800 on top of that. the game still gets boring just like any other game after so long.
that kind of cash could buy you a decent HDtv and a 360 lol.

I'm running the game @60 fps on my $500 rig. i take shadows down because they are really crappy, i also take down draw distance because lets face it, why would you want to look at the distance w/o AA. i maximize Texture and render quality and behold, the ****ty game runs on 60fps 1280x1024

i admire youre committment, i have to buy a console next week( as im doing a lot of traveling ) so im just gonna buy it for a PS3. Its far too early for me for an i7 build, as soon as Bettlefield 3 comes out ill upgrade in a second, not for GTA though

the game runs fine here 25-30 fps outside 50-60 indoors
    my setting are at
    1024x768 that's my lcds max res =/
    texture quality high
    texture rendering highest
and the other ones at 30

the thing that bothers me is and its friken irritating is the missing textures from like 20 minutes of playtime, i start to get missing textures all over, iv tried the super fetch turning it off nothing, i manage the settings so it would not pass the memory limit of my card (it can go beyond your limit does not make a difference) that dint work ether, last thing im about to try is the patch but i doubt it will do anything.

well theres something you wont see on a console lol
but seriously, that crap right there is one of several reasons i got a PS3. i dont play near the pc games i used to these days.

i think once the next gen consoles hit, i'm buying an Apple laptop, selling my rig and getting the new console and thats it, i'll be done with pc gaming....but who knows, my mind changes constantly anyway.

It's actually not even installed yet, it's sitting at my house waiting for the rest of my components to be given to me from my gf . When I do put in the E8500 w/ the TPower i45 I'll be shooting for 4.0-4.5ghz with the Tuniq Tower 120 for cooling.

    Those frames are with my old setup (AMD X2 4200+ @2.7ghz + 4Gb OCZ DDR400 + ASRock Dual SATA-II).

If you are on Vista x64 then you will be running more than 2Gb in this game. I normally use between 2.5-2.7Gb of RAM during GTA IV play on top of the other process in Vista.

Is there a command line to bypass the Rockstar Social Club thing?

    At the moment its like:

Double Click the GTAIV Desktop icon
    Wait 20 seconds
    Click "Skip logon"
    Wait 20 seconds
    Click PLAY
    Wait 10 seconds
Click "OK" to the Offline Mode message
    Wait 30 seconds
    Game FINALLY starts

    so annoying...

The game is bottlenecked if you have a dual core processor. They weren't kidding when they recommended quad core CPUs. I turn everything down and I still have trouble playing with +30 fps. I gave up; gonna bring it out again when the Phenom IIs come out.

I'd love to see a screenshot of that.
    Preferably in-game after the benchmark.
Because that is seriously REALLY hard to belive.
and anyone can fiddle with text.

Make it easier for me and do it your self, set it the same as i did and run a test, also don't forget to set the crappy shadows to 0. i don't think you'll pitch bellow 60fps.

    *EDIT
i don't see why this is so hard to believe, just set all the bars to 0/1 like i said in the start, the only thing that makes this game fun is seeing euphoria in action @ high frame rate.
