Have you turned off "Clip Capture" in the game settings? (look under the "Game" tab) Many have reported doing that increased their FPS and/or made gameplay smoother.

    What settings are you running?

(Copy and paste benchmark results/settings. The benchmark text files are located here: C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Benchmarks)

Turning off clip capture definitely made the game play smoother, albeit only a little, but it's not worth it in the end. Some of the deaths are truly spectacular

I'm going to get GTAIV this holiday. I was actually quite shocked when I heard of the performance issues it was having on the PC... I thought to myself "Surely out of all the game developers, Rockstar wouldn't be lazy enough to make a sh*t port from the Xbox 3-sh*tty?". Well, heh, I guess not.

I've got an AMD 5000+ (2.6GHz) dual core and an 8800GTX. If this is the kind of performance I can expect, then it's going back to the store / or getting runover by the tire of my car... A 5000+ runs with an average of 45FPS in CRYSIS and we can expect 22 in GTAIV???

Yeah, and everyone thought Crysis was a performance monger. :puke2:
The consoles are ruining PC gaming. That along with money hungry lazy mega corporations (Ubisoft anyone?).

Have you tried lowering the texture quality to Medium? On high, it rapes my FPS pretty good. Another thing to try is some commandline parameters. Some have mentioned simple ones like -fullspecaudio can really help the FPS out (look in the GTA threads here about how)

You honestly think a patch is going to bring a performance increase of 20FPS?! :heh: That reminds me when people were always like "The demo has xxx problem, but in the full version it may be improved". Not only was that never true, but now we don't even get demos anymore.

Nah, maybe I wrote it wrong, but not an increase of 20FPS, but bring my FPS up to 20 or so. Even then I said it in a way that hinted at it being unrealistic... That being said, at lowest settings possible I average about 15 FPS, so a 5 FPS increase in a patch is not completely unrealistic.

Right, carry on posting benchies :)
