Well, that's another thing the GTA forums are flooding over with. "XXX WORKS! HOOORAY!. Then 2 hours later: "Uh, oh, nevermind". I for one have given up until they patch it. I don't want to see any more BSOD's this week.

Got it today & it runs o.k. for me with GTX280, 1280X1024, 3gig dominator 1066mhz, XP32, 35- 45FPS altho I just noticed that I haven't set an Nvidia profile so I played it on global settings which has AF & various enhancements enabled. need to try it without.

Runs smooth enough & I have played non stop for 3 hours altho mostly fiddling with the graphic settings, I have most settings high, for some odd reason putting the vehicles to max has little effect on FPS but view distance won't go above 60% without getting the red warning, maxing the vehicles just makes driving even worse .
Apart from the stupid driving which seem to be on an icerink I think I will enjoy this game, it reminds me of a game I played with the kids in the late 90's 'Midtown Madness'
anyone remember that? the graphics obviously can't compare but at least they got the driving right & you could blitz thru the city with police hot on your tail & if you went over a hill you took off, similar to Driver I suppose

I for one think they are on target with the driving physics. At least they have taken the attempt to make it less arcade and bring it more in terms with reality. I always hated the car physics in previous GTA series. I love this one for it.

I loved Midtown Madness too though, as it was the first game i ever played that had the "in-car" view it was so cool.

another video i've recorded doing a little rampage, but it didn't last very long, infact it was pretty short and not very successfull, heh. :wanker:
also please notice the big stutter/slowdown there - i have no idea what's the reason for it, but it's so annoying; it's not like that all the time, but they exist and spoil the fun quite a bit.

the framerate isn't that good either due to full-screen-recording with fraps - anybody knows a better programme for recording? thanks.

in an amazing turn around i actually am enjoying this game. I think somehow the appeal of having this open world and decent missions and good story is making this game actually fun. I can't stop playing it. I guess this proves that screwing up the graphics doesn't neccessarily mean the death of the game.

How do you bypass the Video Memory Slider?

I tried adding -norestrictions and -nomemrestrict to the Desktop shortcut, but it didnt do anything!

I have the retail boxed version, it should work yeah?

Im sick of the jaggies due to low resolution, wanna try 1680x1050...

Don't know why it doesn't work for you. But alternatively you can just put those commands in commandline.txt and place it in game root folder. Have you tried that?

I thought AA didnt work at all?

I have not tried that. I'll try it later.

    Commands grabbed from google:

    -renderquality 4
    -texturequality 1
    -shadowdensity 10
    -viewdistance 99
    -detailquality 99
    -norestrictions
    -novblank

w00t. For the love of God I hope they fixed the cheap shadows and video memory usage, and the bad driving-on-ice car handling

I ran into the same problem. This works for everyone as far as I know:

Create a text file called "commandline.txt" in your GTA main directory. Add to it a single line of code (like below) and then save it.

    -novblank -fullspecaudio -norestrictions -nomemrestrict
