if your budget is under $800, that is pretty good

it all depends on your budget right? but for those specs, like i wouldn't mind having it.
    nice picks =)

i changed it a little bit, i added a 1gb pny 9800gt instead, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133244 making the total $787.28 that should run most games pretty well, would it run crysis well? my computer doesn't even meet minimum requirements for company of heroes or supreme commander, and i run at about 5-15 fps in cities in WoW

You don't really need 1gb of video memory. 512mb will do fine. Do you plan on SLI in the future? If not I suggest you just buy a Intel P45 board instead. Something like an Asus P5Q Pro or a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R

Not too bad there. If I were you thought I'd scrap that PSU and get one that has an 80% efficiency and some PFC.

Something like this would work TONS better than the one that comes with that case.

As for Crysis, don't expect to run it on anything above "High" or "Gamer" (Crysis and Crysis Warhead, respectively). What resolution are you gaming at?

Oh, and if you're getting the GeForce 9800 GT, why not get this one:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130380

It's cheaper, and allows for the EVGA step-up thing.

Or, if you want even better performance, buy this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102770

It's $20 more than the card you had posted, but performs better (what you pay is what you get?).

Or perhaps go for an HD 4830? Both cards seem to be about equal (the 9800 GT and the HD 4830), and the price points are virtually equal as well. The HD 4830 has support for 7.1 HD audio and DirectX 10.1, however, which the 9800 GT does not have support for.

I second this. nVidia shines in the GPU market, not the motherboard market.

Just out of curiosity, how come you're not running your Q9400 at 3.4 ghz or better? Give you nice frame boost in your games. I run mine all day at 3.6 ghz which is 8 X FSB 450 @ 1:1 memory at 900 mhz at a vcore of 1.375.

To be honest it's 'cause I'm rather new to overclocking. My motherboard has the stupid "jumper" thing going on for the memory divider, and I just don't want to mess with that. My RAM is DDR3 1333, and has no heat spreader, so I had to underclock it to 1066 before overclocking the FSB. Also, as my PSU was a mainstream-value one, I don't want to push it, nor mess with voltages - the computer refused to boot up when I pushed the FSB to 375.

I also have the stock Intel heatsink, and don't intend to get a better cooler yet. I'm planning on upgrading to i7 this summer, and get an Asus P6T Deluxe (unless something better rolls around) with 12 GB DDR3 1333 RAM (with heat spreaders) and overclock that - I'll get a good heatsink then. Right now I'm just being careful.

Yes the P5Q is a great board, and will fit with your other parts + the HD4850.

What case and PSU did you decide on?

i was thinking about this case:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147106
    with this PSU
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182072
the PSU is a bundle deal with the HD 4850, it's $250 instead of $350 when you buy both

It says the memory standard for the P5Q is DDR2 1200 but that's really expensive, can i run DDR2 1066?

Yes the memory will work on it, it will just run @ 1066, not 1200... unless you OC the RAM.

I guess that is a pretty cool deal on the GPU/PSU.. I had a Rosewill PSU before and it burned out in under 6 months. Since then Ive tried to stay away from them. 850w is way more then enough for a single 4850... unless you are planning on going Crossfire in the future... you would do fine with a 600w PSU with a single 4850 set up.
