I need a switch for gaming that has 12-15 ports on it.

I have a fairly large budget but I don't want anything ridiculous.

I f you guys could point me in the right direction that would be awesome (I really don't know very much about networking)

If it's just gaming, I'd look at one of the Gigabit switches by Linksys.
Their managed switches aren't too bad.

    Thanks.

Is there really any reason to get a switch instead of a regular router?

I'm really sort of confused on this whole thing.

Well Routers just don't have many Ethernet ports on them.

And if you're in a house, and you have a few computers, sure, you can get a Router with Gigabit switch built in.

Generally Routers only have a 1 or 2 ethernet ports, and you VLAN them off etc.

Switches are there to connect a whole bunch of computers, like a LAN, you'll want your 24port switch etc.
