I'm running Far Cry 2 retail, I have a 4870 Crossfire system and Im running the 8.10 cats with the hotfix. Everything seems to run OK but I get CTD every 20-30 mins which makes prolongued play a pain in the arse.

It tends to flicker black a bit almost like GPU overheating problem just seconds before it crashes, which made me think it was a GPU issue, but my cards arent overheating I can tell because the fan isnt spinning up to max like it does with some other games to compensate for the heat.

Is anyone else getting this? Anyone have any idea how to fix it?

    Vista Ultimate x64 all patched
    Q9450 @ 3.6ghz stable
    Crossfire 4870 512mb
    4Gb of RAM
    Nothing is overheating.

Same problem here, except it can be anything up to 2 hrs before it crashes so its not quite as bad. I think alot of ppl with ATI cards are having the same issue.

I'll try DX9 then, it can be longer than 20-30 mins, after a fresh boot it does actually play for maybe an hour or so...

I've had several random CTDs with Far Cry 2, I'll try DX9 mode now.

My game also crashed a few times on a save, but my sound also gets "stuck". Need to reboot every time the game crash to fix the sound issue...

This is a widely reported problem guys. We just have to wait for a patch.

And I expect Nvidia cards are having the same problem, so don't assume that just because you're posting in an ATI subforum and everyone has ATI cards, that it is only the same ATI cards that crash.

I don't have this problem. (weeh, thats a first)
Can play it for hours without problems, everything maxed out, DX10. 2xAA.
My card does not overheat with this game, altrough it does with stalker clear sky.

EDIT: had it happening today also.
Screen freezes, a few ctrl alt del and windows button's later i think the graphic card driver tried to recover. But its already to late by then, pc rebooted.

Great these ATI cards.... ATI  us.

FYI, if you go into control panel, and find your device manager you can expand the sound devices and then right click - disable, then right click - enable, and it will stop sound looping without a restart, at least it did with my Asus Xonar D2X sound card.

It's still annoying as hell but it allows you to play the game and turn the crashes from a show stopper into just a major annoyance making it somewhat playable.

Despite the crashes I'm still liking the game a lot.

FarCry 2 is suffering from Memory leak... Thats why the game either slowsdown after 1 hour or eventually crashes u back to desktop.

Ubisoft knows, and its going to be fixxed on the next patch.

However, its not such a big deal for me cuz it starts to lag like hell all of the sudden after about 1 hour, so i just save, quit the game then restart it and voila im back playing :D

looks as though Ubisoft are working on fixing a memory leak within the game, would like to get in the jungle for more than an hour a time !! Should be sorted on next patch.
