If you got the money for 3 GTX280's get a Thermaltake Toughpower 1500 W
Futureproof and more than enough for now ;)
    I love it :D

Yes, that is the definition of efficiency, but, there is also a curve based on load. Efficiency drops on many PSUs as you approach limits. Second, heat and noise dissipation is another consideration. Under higher loads, efficiency drops, heat rises and fan speeds increase. Keep loads within the nominal range and you get a quieter experience. Another negative, you will likely end up using more electricity at the socket on the smaller PSU under strain than the larger one loping.

Been extremely intresting reading all your posts..
    I cant thank you enough..

Alright , I just bought a CoolerMaster 1250 Real Power Pro , the min I cut the seal open on the box , the other damn retailer calls and says he can arrange for a ThermalTake 1500watt !!

I got so damn confused , been dying to try my 3rd card..puff..

So I sat confused all day long , my head's gone numb !
I dont even know if I can return it , will go and find out in a bit..

Obvious I'd love to have the Thermaltake but my friends keep confusing me..
Saying it's a major waste of cash , mainly since the Cooler Master is almost half it's price , Thermaltake is going to cost me roughly 85% of the CM's original cost on top..
    Thats almost double the price..

It's almost like buying another GTX 280..eeKk

But my silverstone lasted me 2 years , did wonders buying an over zelious PSU..
But by the time I start needing that 1500watts , they'll probably have a 2k PSU..

But then there's this aspect , I'll be getting four 8pin PCI-E connectors , which will be future proofing for a 4th card..
Incase if they ever start that s h i t again..

I'm going to be upgrading my motherboard , ram & processor towards the end of this year..
Probably going to be my major upgrade..

So I guess there might be a chance to justify me wanting to get a 1500watts PSU !

Could you guys justify buying it ?

Looks like you can probably afford it! I'd go for it. Next time you upgrade and you don't have to worry about your PSU, you will feel good about it.

Actually, there is already a 2000 Watt PSU. It is so big, it resides outside your case and has a modular power ditribution panel where the normal PSU would reside. Check it out. It needs to power plugs on two separate circuits (assuming 15A - US) :)

Interestingly, there are only 5 PCIE runs. :3eyes:

Thermaltake were showing off a 2kW PSU that fits inside the case, I dunno whatever happened to that:

    Talk about overkill!

You know what I find funny about your post, is the fact you are using a cheap & nasty PSU (EZCool 700W) yet you give such advice, I think you should take your own advice as well mate.

I've read about those very EZCool power supplies taking out whole rigs (Hexus Forums)

I've also witnessed 3 Generic Power Supplies failing/fail in the past and just won't take the risk anymore, which is why I got myself a good PSU with this PC.

I already adviced you to buy the Thermaltake 1500
I have had a lot of PSU's and i definatly love the Thermaltake, altough i'm an Enermax lover, a shame they dont make 1500 W models.
Think about the scenario where a future released VGA performance crown goes to Ati, and they allow quad-crossfire.
Then you definatly need those 8 PCI-E connectors.
Why save on the most important part of your system?
Why didnt you buy 3 GTX260's ? Those are cheaper too with little less performance.
    You get my point? :)
