I reckon they'll be loved by some and put down by others.
Why do people think that there will be some magic driver that will drastically improve their graphics card performance.
It's always been the same, new hardware comes out and the drivers take a while to reach optimum performance, that's just the way it goes.
I'm certain that the latest generation of cards will get a performance increase with each release of driver.
Trouble is that peeps using older cards will start moaning that they see no improvement.

Personally I'm in no hurry for these, then again I'm still running a 8800GTX so I'm not expecting anything above what I'm already getting.

It did happen in the past and what quite a few people are hoping for with this driver release, is the multi monitor support when running SLI.

    That's a good attitude. ;)

There can only be so many threads about the same topic.

Just to make it a bit more obvious:
This thread was started on: 09-15-2008, 09:06
"178.00 ftw!!! (Closed)" was started on: 09-17-2008, 03:55
"what heppend to big bang 2 (180.00)? (Closed)" was started on: 09-17-2008, 04:10

(This one was on the frontpage before the other two, which were just started today. ;))

OK guys calm down, its just a post .. oyi..

    Back to the topic please..

Everyday that goes by is a day were closer to the Bang.. Can u feel it?

Nvidia is gonna recreate the stratosphere.. lol..

Now it makes you wonder what is gonna come next? Im sure these 180's aka BB 2 drivers will take some time to mature, just like any other driver set.

Really? Is there a link to a tutorial on how to do it? I'm assuming the x264 encoder would have to be recompiled with take advantage of CUDA for it to be fast. I will have to look into this.

    Thanks

Re: 180 drivers. It's a bit concerning we haven't seen any betas yet, especially no betas with SLI multi monitor support. I don't remember the last time of a major driver launcher without any leaked betas. Probably delayed due to issues?

I hope they come out with these soon, and they better include updates and better support for the 55nm 9800GT. I just got the card, and I can't play any Unreal 3 Engine games at all (Mass Effect, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Bioshock, Gears of War, ...) as they all BSOD due to the drivers. That and despite having a dual-slot cooler and it being a 55nm core, I can't overclock one bit at all as it immediately BSODs (and there's no overheating problem)

Nice try at guessing, but i've already checked, and it's not the OC on the CPU. All BSODs point to nv4_disp.dll, which leads me to believe it's a driver issue. Some other people with different specs but the same card are experiencing the same issue.

Did some research on CUDA encoding. It's with that commercial encoding program you see on The Force Within page on nvidia.com. The trial version (h264 based) is limited to 720p with a default profile that yields terrible results. Supposedly the commercial version will have 1080p but perhaps not the same depth as the x264 open source encoder. x264 will likely not support CUDA because the devs (working for free obviously) would have to spend a lot of time for an efficient implementation. Oh well.
