I've stumbled across the following problem: When I try to open up ports on my router for the use of network programs (like uTorrent) and test if they are indeed opened...they are not. I tried a different router; same result Tried loads of different ports; same result On my old PC I used to be able to open them, now the message reads: "Port **** does not appear to be open. Please see www.portforward.com for more information about how to map a port. Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs. Those of you using ipfilter.dat should make sure the list does not include the website's IP. After making sure of this, re-run this test by refreshing the page (F5)." If I disable the firewall it doesn't make any difference..... What is wrong with my PC that I can't open up a port? My housemate can (he's using windows 2000, I'm using XP SP3,fully updated) Could that be it? That Windows is causing trouble? Or what else? Any suggestions? (and I did check if it's the right IP-adress and the such :nerd: )
No, I use ZoneAlarm, I tried it with the firewall on ánd off. No difference unfortunately.. I'll go try the DMZ now. :edit: doesn't work. It still says it's closed.....(thanks for the suggestion though)
Like the message said, if your using IP filtering make sure the IP 72.20.34.145 is not blocked. If you start a download does Utorrent give you any indication of connection problems ? Because sometime the Utorrent test can fail even if the ports are forwarded/triggered correctly. As for the software firewall sometimes disabling is just not good enough. I would suggest either making sure it's configured correctly or uninstall and test again.
Even with the firewall off, it doesn't work. I've tried some other ways to see if the port was opened, but it seems it isn't. As far as I see it isn't one of the following: -Firewall -Router -uTorrent Even when opening up all ports (DMZ) it still says they're blocked. Could it be something in windows? Does anyone have any ideas? :S
Yeah tried that. I had some trouble with ZoneAlarm and the windows update a while back; it blocked the internet :S So I uninstalled it. They fixed it, so I reïnstalled it. I can't see why zonealarm would keep blocking my ports while I disable it, but you never know, so I'll try anyway
