I was running at 2.8GHz then tried at 2.6GHz and it made very little difference so I guess it is just the game and the video card.

As for what I was expecting.....I was kinda hoping to double my FPS like upgrading from my 7 series card to my 8 series card did in many games. :)

    Not really.

If you OC your GFX by 10-20% you gain like 5-7 fps on average ( generally ).

If you OC you CPU by 1000 mhz you gain roughly the same in min and max fps.

Together that would probably lead to about 10-14 more average fps during a bench.

Now I never been a fan of crysis at all and only tried the demo (before the game was released ) so I don't know for myself how the game scales on cpus and OCs, so it is an estimate of what would happend :)..

OCing always helps some, pushing your clocks on cpu and gfx means they work faster, working faster means higher fps and more heat generated. Thats the only thing you can do to speed up your system without changing the archetecture of your components AKA buying new stuff.

It uses the same timedemos, but it has a better interface: http://downloads.guru3d.com/Crysis-Benchmark-Tool-1.05-Final-download-1791.html

Nothing stopping you from making custom timedemos, I guess. But the GPU timedemo is what most reviewers seem to use.

OCing your CPU basically never helps in games 1680x1050 and above, only a handful of games does, as i just tried to tell someone elsewhere, in Crysis a Pheom at 2.2Ghz only gets 4fps lower in Crysis then a Core 2 Quad at 3.2Ghz at 1680x1050, and only gets worse with higher resolutions and higher quality settings

At 1920x1200, the CPU is almost irrelevant, so OC'ing would have little or no impact on FPS a that res. But OC it anyway just to see for yourself that you're not missing anything.

No, I don't think so. It seems very right. And as alanm pointed out, at your resolution, it's certainly the graphics card that's hit it's limit.

Not end of story. Crysis likes quad-cores after one of the patches, as far as I can remember.

Not really, it's "supposed" to like a quad-core over everything else, but the difference is not really anything, especially at that resolution, hence guru3d's benchmarks

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/cpu-scaling-in-games-with-quad-core-processors/9

now, you might say there's a difference between the Athlon dual-core and the Phenom quad-core, however, look at the Core 2 Duos vs the Core 2 Quads

When I am running Crysis my CPU usage display on my keyboard shows around 30-40% usage.

Why not bump it to 3GHz? Very easily done on the q6600, even on a stock fan.

So do you think that the results are typical for my setup or do you think they are below where they should be? I see some people saying my results sound about right while others are saying they are low. I haven't ever had ATI drivers on this machine and I am running the .79 drivers for Vista x64.

Crysis im starting to hate the game. So hard to get the game to look nice and stuff. LOL Im getting in 30fps fps at 1680x1050 no AA, No AF, all custom settings with dx9 ccc. at custom setting high level 5.

    using 8800 gts 512, 680I, Q6600

Is your ram really at 800? If you can bump that up you'll help everything in your system and this is likely why you didn't see much of a difference from 2.8 to 2.6 gig....the ram could be the bottelneck.

    shouldve gone gtx 280.

    1900x1200 dx10 very high is averaging 29fps
same with dx9 i think was in the low 40's if i recall
but i typically play the game with 1280x1024 with dx10 settings and a little AA so its all smooth

better luck with Warcry..supposed to be more effieciently coded with a new lighting system

Get a better GPU, but Crysis is that badly coded that it's bloody ridiculous.

Is the game playable on your rig now? If not OC everything, then if that is not enough, time to open the wallet.

I tried running the benchmark at 1680x1050 and surprisingly it didn't even help. Wouldn't that lead you to believe that the GPU isn't the bottleneck at anything below 1920x1200?
