Hey people. Looking for a well priced, fast, 250GB-300GB (somewhere around that area) HDD for my new build. It does not have to be incredibly fast, but it has to be a good performer. Was looking at the Seagate Barracuda ES.2, but read a review that showed it in a not too great light. Any ideas guys/girls? I plan on buying a SSD in the future for Windows etc, so like I say, this one doesn't have to be amazing, just good.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a 500GB HDD? the case maybe different where you are but here the best price (price per gig) and lowest price HDD's are the 500 GB drives by WD and Seagate. I find both perform reasonably well.
Well a 250GB ES2 is about £40 here, so if you have a decent performing HDD with more storage for a similar price, I am all ears.
http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=798906 WD 640GBs. Today's sexiest drives If it's too much maybe you'll have better luck finding a sale or something. Here's a review: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article847-page1.html (Yeah, I like them cool and quiet)
meh i have Seagate Barracudas and they are very fast ...no matter what reviews say they are good hdds in my book
Thanks for the inputs guys. That's one other guy going for the ES2. I will have a deeper look into the Caviars as well.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130826 Looks good for the price, 500GB space as well Personally, I would trust Seagate more than anyone at the moment (and nearly all the HDDs I've used in the past have been by Maxtor as well lol)
You're kidding right? You'd turn down a 640GB drive far superior in EVERY aspect (except Seagate's warranty, yeah yeah) to that outdated 500GB because it's like 5 bucks cheaper? Did I miss something?
never had any problems with them plus the Seagate*DiscWizard is why i keep with it i hate fresh installs
Oh by all means, great drives. What I said was directed at Skiddy in his current situation. If one were to buy a drive TODAY and pick between the two, I just think it's a very obvious choice.
I personally use Seagate. I currently have in my rig, series 7200.10 and 7200.11 and they are pretty good. Cheers,
I know it's quite naive to say this, but in the past I have heard of and seen myself Western Digital HDDs failing often, so that's the reason I don't trust them, but whatever, that's just me
I doubt I would even use 500GB, much less over 600, and the Segate has double the cache. Simple really. I only wanted 250GB or so in the first place.
I don't use a hell of a lot of my 500gb either, but it's nice to have the extra space there for when I may need it
Honestly, me and my two brothers share this computer, and between us we don't even have 250GB of space used up.
