Triple buffering in 3D ?? Is this possible, with my nVidia I could force it with DXtweaker !! Anyone ?? Hans
you can set triple even quad and so on buffering in dxtweaker. select game (app) and activate the preset changer option and choose 2 as the backbuffer number
kapu you're thinking of Direct3D. Hansje was correct when he said 3D. V. Sync stops screen tearing on 3D apps if your FPS are more than your monitors refresh rate. Yes enabling triple buffering does speed up performance when V. Sync is enabled BUT ONLY if your Frame Rate is higher than your refresh rate. If V. Sync is turned on and you have a lower FPS than refresh rate it actually reduces performance. There would be no reason to have V. Sync enabled unless you were getting tearing anyway. Unless you're experiencing screen tearing during gaming, the best option is to leave it turned off.
V sync & triple Buffer also smooths out graphics, by regulating framerates to refresh rate, it is more noticable in racing games where fluctuating framerates at frequencies all over the place can really mess up game play, nvidia vsync & Tbuffer, can be done with rivatuner & D3DOverider, for ATI cards including new 4800 boards use ATI Tray tools (but it must be version 1.4.7.1207 beta, for newer boards 3800 and 4800) earlier versions dont work properly! (note ATI Tray Tools does not oficially support 4800 boards YET, but it does work, just leave the overclocking alone, as that isnt 100% and could Knacker things Up) with ATITT remember to try different flip queue size settings (settings from 0 to 5) which is basically the same as rivatuners frames to render ahead setting, (which can make a hell of a difference in some games) but remember settings too high can cause controller lag, so u have to experiment!
Except under Vista, where you do not get control over the flip queue size. This control has been given over to the OS under vista so that apps can dynamically change it based on load.
