I was just wondering if it would be worth the trouble to upgrade my Athlon 64 4000+ to a Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dose it relay make much difference in games. I'm using an ASRock Socket 939 DUAL-SATA2 Motherbaord, With 2 gig's of ram and a Diamond radeon 3870 512meg PCIE video card. And I am happy with it now I can play Crysis on medium settings and it runs very smooth. I can get the CPU cheep from a friend I'm just not sure if it would make much difference.

    How cheap?

I'm pretty sure the difference is going to be rather minimal.

They o/c fairly well, I would say for the price on them, do it! Dual core is starting to be used more and can make a nice difference in some games and applications!

The difference will not be huge but i think it worth if it is a bargain.
On a second rig i have a 3700+ oc to 2,4ghz. And i positively say that the main dual core PC performs alot better in games, especially those that benefit from 2 cores. Also the average performance even on desktop is more "fluid" without annoying few sec pauses/hangs when many apps are running simutaneusly and of course heavy load CPU aps like transcoding ends considerably faster.
From my personal experience 939 duals are not that great overclockers but you can easily reach 2,4ghz with a 3800+ even without Over volt if you are lucky or perhaps even more. I have seen some at 2,7 range stable.

mate sell it, i had a 4200X2, Asrock 939 mobo and 1.6Hig DDr1 and it cost me( after selling my stuff ) around 80euro to upgrade to an E7200, P5K and 2 gig corsair 8500 C5. I got a 30% performance improvement with a 3850 with the new rig

The 3800 is a fantastic overclocker

Thanks for all your input. I have decided to go ahead and get it. I have two of these Asrock boards so I will test this on one of them and for the other one I just got the AM2 upgrade card so I am going to use an AM2 CPU and some DDR2 ram.
