I'd rather wait till a 55nm revision and an additional drop in $. Hopefully they'll tack DDR5 memory on there too.

If I had of waited 7 days I could have saved £120 on my purchase of two GTX260's ! haha (Prices went from £267 to £207)

Burns me a little tiny bit but I don't mind that much :)

Yeah but you had to know that this was coming. To be honest I don't know why you didn't go for either 4850 or 4870 crossfire. So much more bang for buck at the time.

I honestly don't see a reason to buy one of these when you can just buy a 4870 instead...

That is a significant drop in performance, but you can STILL get more performance for cheaper by going for two 4850s.

nVidia needs to come up with something quick.

    EDIT:
Sure, the 280 GTX does outpace the 4870 at resolutions like 25x16, but the 4970 hardly struggles. Fact of the matter is the GTX 280 is twice the price of a 4870, and in general offers very little extra, even at the higher resolutions (unless you play GRAW2 >_>).

I'll probably SLI soon if the prices drop enough, 280GTX in SLI should play all the games for the next year.

I prefer NVIDIA products, I like the control panel and the rate of driver releases.

Don't get me wrong if the ATi products were faster I would have bought those but they aren't fast enough at the resolution I game at (2560x1600) for me to switch. Also I would have gone with Dual GTX280's but I don't have any 8-Pin connectors and I decided I didn't want to use a bunch of converters nor did I want to get a new Power Supply.

Again, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with ATi/AMD products, just that they aren't for me and given the chance I would prefer NVIDIA cards and SLI over ATi cards and Crossfire.

...for $295 (spotted on NCIX). The ridiculous price difference between the 4870 and GTX280 is almost obscene and more than compensates for whatever minor advantage the 280 has over it, especially considering the large (and ever growing) number of people now in possession of Crossfire platforms.

Or at least in serious worried mode. It is certainly setting a precedent, never before had nVidia dropped the price on iits flagship card so soon after launch. It dropped by $100 the very day that the first 4870's started shipping and will likely fall to under $400 by the end of the month since a price difference of more than $100 would certainly keep the GTX280 uncompetitive. And apparently ATI and its partners have produced an unprecedented number of 4850's and 4870's before launch so nVidia can't even count on a supply shortage for a breather. Competition rocks indeed.

I have to agree, I had ATI before for awile and I never really got to liking it. It was just something odd about ATI, never felt right somehow. I admit, I did not think ATI would pull out such a powerfull GPU for 300.00 U.S. I mean the 4870 outperforms the GTX280 on a number of games, including two I play the most, COD4 and GRID, lol. Simply amazing a 300 dollar card out performs a 650 dollar one. Nvidia should be sticking their heads in the sand right now as this is embarrassing, not to mention they had the nerve to charge that much for a card that is not any faster.

I don't know why people are still saying the GTX280 is faster than the 4870...Look at the freaking reviews, the 4870 is right there, even beating the 280 at times. OMG then there is Crossfire, not even going there. The ONLY 2 reasons I'm sticking with Nvidia is the reason above and the fact that Crossfire does not work well in some games and will always have it's issues. SLI is the same way, I will never get that either. So I picked the overall faster card of the bunch, the GTX280. That I payed way to much for and will be replaced by much better in a few months as Nvidias Q4 gpu looks to be the real deal.

I have to say, thank you ATI for actually making a GPU that competes and actually beats the competition after all this time:) I wonder if I can RMA my 280 and turn around and get another for 150 less:3eyes: You know you were thinking it;)
