  2. Floating-point numbers when Overclocking

    Hi Guys!

Sorry if this question was already asked. I didn't find anything in the search.

I have fresh new Windows XP SP3 and a new Flatscreen whit DVI and a HD3870 with 8.5 Catalyst drivers.
When i'am overclocking/downclocking the values appears only as floating-point numbers (Kommazahl; e.g. Core Clock: 796,5), this happens with all variables (FAN, Core and Memory).
And if i choose e.g. 300 MHz for Core and press apply the slider moves to 297 MHz. So it is hard to find minimum clocks.
On my old Windows, a older Version of ATT and OmegaDriver, but with the same HD3870, this issue don't happend.

Can anyone tell what the reason therefor is?

you can overclock only by some steps. So sometimes it is not possible to set exact values. This is not ATT but diver behavior.

This was in early beta version with HD 3xxx support. What you see now is real values which can be applied.

    No :) I didn't say its supported.

My HD2600 still won't take clock settings, as soon as I click "apply" they reset. :(

I know it's not a priority, just thought I'd mention it. Here's my sysinfo:

It is. The AMD tool allows overclocking, so it does work. But like I said, I know it's not a common card. Just hoping it'll work. ;)

Sorry but ATT has limited support for mobility chips. AMD can make "AMD tool" to work with mobile chip because it is their product :)

Thats basically the same chip as mine. The clock speeds are controlled by a different method in laptops as far as i can tell. That same method also controls the PCI-E bus width as well depending on if you use battery or mains.

My 2400xt will drop to 1x pci-e, 110 core, 300 ram when in 2d mode and on battery.

i get weird problems with Sapphire X1950 and ATT ...

first time ATT runs it detects card monitoring module fine (GPUcore/GPUenv temperatures and fan)
but after first system restart it fails to work anymore

this include that nor Everest nor RivaTuner is able monitor it (RivaTuner even able read correct temperatures out of VRM while ATT fails shows only 0 and 225 values)

i'm trying to figure out what may 'cause' this (other software or driver)

i got running PowerStrip (last beta) but with disabled anything related to GPU hardware and overclocking as i use it only for monitors...

ATI tools is not install on that computer (i know that one was bugged)

i wrote this only if someone got 'idea' what may cause this because i'm puzzled ...

disabled ATT, Everest,PowerStrip and RivaTuner on startup to be sure and still no go ...

Hi Ray, it passed a long time since my last message...i come back :)

I installed last ATT Ver 1.4.71.207 (i think it doesn't support my vga card) becouse i wish to control gpu fan. Well gpu fan doesn't work but gpu temp increase VERY MUCH...it seems that ATT is in some kind of internal loop.

When will be available ATT with support HD3870X2 i wish you resolve this bug.

    Thanx

    PS
Is it changed something since my last message about HD3870X2 support ?
    PPS
Is it possible that YOU and RivaTuner team works together to create an unique program which supports ATI and NVIDIA chipset or everyone will pass each other tech infos about gpu (gpu fan sensor, ...).
    I think it's only a dream...

I found a unexpected issue with the edge detect filter of the AA using ATT. When I activate AA with ED in ATT all is ok. When I reset AA to aplication preference without resetting the filter back to Box (default?) 3Dmark200x crash when I set AA in the program (without AA set, all is ok). And crash means big time crash (system starts beeping, reset to BIOS). Also tested two games (Bioshock and UT3) that cannot set AA, they crash as well. When I reset the filter to Box (AA on, filter to Box, AA app pref) all is well again.

    I use ATI8.6 driver only on a HD3850 512Mb, Intel E8400 on ASUS P5E 2Gb.

Hey Ray, I have an issue with ATT. It takes a long time to start up even on my machine. It increases time from login to fully loaded desktop by at least 300%. You may need to look at concentrating on the efficiency of the program as it's just not viable to have the program load at startup as it's just unbearable waiting for it to load ( takes up an entire core for itself for quite some time ).
