    Hi,
I have a 7950GX2 and it can still run every game on the market, but only DX9.
I want to experience DX10 games and a cheap way to do it and still get a nice performance is SLI 9600GT, do you agree on this? Do you all think its an upgrade ou donwgrade?

    Thanks :infinity:

    A single 9600gt is faster then a 7950gx2. I'd look into a 260 gtx if i was you.

I had no idea, I thought a midrange card wouldn't beat a high end like 7950GX2 if it is i would spend even less money on only one 9600GT, the 260gtx is still to expansive, but i'll think about it. thanks ;)

You'll need Vista to experience DX10. If your gonna go with a single card look into the 8800GT's as well, still probably the best bang for the buck.

Yes i know, but do you'll think its a good choice to upgrade from a 7950GX2, is DX10 so different, that justifies this upgrade, or will the games look prety much the same?

Current DX 10 games look little different from when they are rendered in DX 9. If you are happy with your current system and want to upgrade merely for DX 10, it would be rather pointless. The performance gain would be a more rational reason. If you have the cash, you could also get a GTX 260 or wait for the 200 series midrange.

I think I will go for the sli 9600gt, for what i have seen, in sli this card is very good and the price is very affordable about 250€ for both cards, for this price I think its not possible to get better then this. Don't you agree?

For the love of god don't go SLI. 9600gt sli will be about as fast as a single gtx 260 and a 260 gtx will trounce it in higher resolutions + with the single card you remove all the problems of sli. The 260 gtx will only be 100 euros or so more in a couple weeks and its a much better buy.

disagree, sli of 9600gt is great for the money, is even faster than 8800ultra which is good, im using windows xp rigth now, and i dont have "problems" with my sli, im a web designer, and use photoshop, dreamweaver flash .... and so on, and when im playing is kinda great, i can play crysis at 1440*900 with all high not antialising of course and i get about 40 fps...

If you want you can get two 9600gt and youll be fine, and also the gtx260 is a nice option as well..

I changed from my old 7950GX2 and i had the same doubts as you. But let me say that just the one 9600GT easily beats my 7950GX2 to a pulp. If the game is a well optimised at SLi then the difference between the two wasn't so great. But the game world isn't so great on optimisation and so pleasently i can play Crysis at High settings at 1440x900 or medium at 1680x1050 where my GX2 couldnt even run Medium settings at 1280x800 smoothly. Bioshock runs better and now has DX10 effects (not that great in this title but hey i paid for it now i get to use them :p). basically this midrange card beats any of the 7 series hands down.

Fast paced games like FEAR are rubbish with sli. Unless you like SLI lag.

I've installed the cards yesterday, done a clean install of windows vista ultimate and just did one small test in the game GRID, played a track, seems pretty much the same as my old card, lol, great xD this weekend i'll try crysis and other games and i'll tell how it goes. For now it doesn't seem like an upgrade. i'll keep you posted...

one 9600 gt = 2.5 7950gt and SLI tech was improved for nvidia 9 series (thats the main difference with 8series imo)

so check if ur SLI is enabled xP

anyways dx10 its not a great deal imo t.t winXP ftw for a few months still  on crysis dx10 < dx9, and quality difference... its 0

Yes SLI is enabled ;) but as I sayed it was just a small test. I'll test in other games this weekend and I hope I'll see a big difference ;) the motherboard can also be the problem, because when sli its enabled, what it does is divide the PICe 16x bandwidth in to 2 8x PCIe, I saw some reviews saying the diference is minimum, do you agree?

just stop worrying and go have some quality game-time :)

GRID runs smooth on single 9600GT with all settings on max and 4xAA, if you put it in SLi there is just no difference to be seen. I imagine it run well on 7950gx2 also and that's why you don't see any difference. Force "High Quality" in drivers, put 8xAA, 16xAF and then run GRID and tell me if 7950x2 could run it that way ;)

    cheers !
