Right Birthday coming up so i thought its time to upgrade this xfx 8600GTS. Nows the crunch whats the best route. My budget is around €150 give or take a few €€€ I've seen 8800GT/GTS and 9600GT/GTS for around the right price but really have not got a clue. I read loads on here about 8800's being the best. I don't want a flame war just good advice from people who own the cards. Now i see loads of different versions:bang: XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB DDR3 (PCI-e, 2x DVI) PV-T80G-GHF9 €129 XFX GeForce 8800GT XT PV-T88P-YHE4 512mb €120 XFX GeForce 8800GT XXX PV-T88P-YHD4 512mb €140 EVGA GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512mb €134 the 4 cards above are the ones that catch my eye. Which do the people recommend or any other for that matter.
When you do decide to upgrade, keep in mind that the gts 320 has significantly lower performance than the 8800 gt 512. FWIW, I have an xfx 8800 gt, and I love it. No need to spend an extra 20 euro on the xxx version because you can easily overclock it yourself.
For that price range i'd put my money on either the 8800 GT's or maybe the hd48xx depending on their performance and price. You better wait and see how they perform at the very least.
8800GTS 320mb is around 30% slower then a stock 8800GT so thats not a good choise, Just get the cheapest 8800GT u can find. they are all the same,just different colours/coolers and clocks, don`t get a pree oced that costs more u can just oc it yourself,and if it doesn`t oc so good u can flash it so u get alitle more volts... And as the others said,wait a few weeks and see...
I also see new cards are PCIe 2.0 i take it a PCIe 16x can still run these cards. Just having a look about i also see EN9600GT/HTDI/1G Gigantic 1GB memory on board & Exclusive Glaciator Fansink - 1GB DDR3 memory on board - ASUS Exclusive Glaciator Fansink - HDMI Supported these are also going for € 150 Gawd its terrible there are so many out there lol. After this i'll need to get a better cpu i s'pose which then means new mobo coz mines rather limited
The 1 gig of memory on a 9600gt is totally not necessary. It will be cripled by the 256bit memory bus.
should wait for the new ati cards that come out on the 25th/26th june, so the prices for the old cards will fall and those wont be really expensive either, and than you should go either with the 4850 or an 8800 gts 512 (at least id do so)
if you have a crossfire MB supposedly you will see (or see now) 3850's for less than 60 euros, which could let you CF them for near 8800 GTS 512MB performance levels (lead in some lose in others). but yeah, wait for mid/end of june. 4800 series and GTX 280/260 will be out and after a few weeks should drive a few cards prices down (if etailers cooperate).
ahwell i went for a PV-T88P-UHF4 XFX GeForce 8800GT for € 120. Got an email from the shop they had it on the web page for the wrong price lol but thats their problem and their loss ( nice honest shop) they retail at €162 so i saved €42 :banana: Should get it Wednesday and then me thinks a new cpu as this x2 64 3800+ dual core is getting old. Then i hope to be having good graphics and nice fps. Quick question is it true a monitor with high ms also drops fps on games? This old Flatron is a 12ms monitor.
