Im selling my other 3870x2 and keeping the one i have spare, and was wondering if i could crossfire a 3870x2 with a 2900xt? if so would it work strange or something like graphical corruptions and as the 2900xt has a little slower clocks would the 3870x2 still operate at full speed or would the clocks drop down to the speed of the 2900xt? thanks
I think I saw somewhere that a 2900 + 38xx is possible. just google it. http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-3822-view-Radeon-HD-2900-XT-and-HD-3870-Crossfire.html http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-167284.html however "3fire" could be another story.
Think of it this way; it's three gpu's, technically the same as three cards. The 29xx's may be able to crossfire with the 38xx's, but they can't do three or four gpu scaling. Your answer is a definite no.
It wont, and even if it did, it'd just slow the 3870x2 down so much it'd be faster on its own. The 2900XT would bottleneck, if possible at all.
and how did you come to the conclusion that it would slow it down ? or is it just a simple guess of yours ?
These days you can Crossfire 2, 3 or 4 cards. You can mix cards from the 3xxx series, but it won't accept the 2900 in combination with a 3xxx series card. Edit: The article below explains what happens when you Crossfire a 3870 with a 3850... http://techreport.com/articles.x/14284
have you even opened the links I have posted and read them ? because it reports n The game World In Conflict, for example, using 1280 x 768 and the mode 2xAA / 16xAF the bundle of Radeon HD 3870 and Radeon HD 2900 XT showed almost double increase in performance compared to a single graphics card Radeon HD 2900 XT. http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/3870-XXX/mixed.php
