Hi, I've been out of pc gaming for a while for various reasons and am now getting back and am considering a graphics card upgrade, my current rig is shown below. I have looked around the web and am unsure about the new cards wether they will work or not!!! Can you please take a look and tell me what you think would be the best option?

    Os - Win XP Home

    Processor - AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 2.6GHz Socket 939, 2MB,

    Mobo - EPoX EP-9NPA3 SLI, nForce4 SLI, Socket 939, ATX, S-ATA2, GbLAN, DDR, PCI-Ex16

    Ram - OCZ Platinum PC3200 2048MB Dual Kit PC3200 1024MB DIMM`s, CL 2-3-2-5

    Graphics Card - Gigabyte GeForce 7950GX2 1024MB GDDR3, PCI-Express,ViVo,Dual-DVI-I

an 8800GT, 8800GTS 512mb or 9800GTX will suit that cpu fine

it would also be a good idea to try for 3.0ghz on the cpu

Thanks for that, I really appreciate it. I have looked at a few 9800GTX cards and they are all pci exprses 2.0, is my mobo a 2.0 or is that just a firmware update?

pci express 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with pci express 1.0 slots so it wouldnt be a problem

I would suggest a CPU upgrade normally, but seeing as most games nowadays are heavily GPU dependent, I don't think it matters too much.

All card should work, or at least the vast majority. The real question, is how much you want to spend and what improvements you are expecting.

I think the monitor you own really should dictate what card you buy next. So what is your resolution?

    no.
the 8800gt 1gb is a waste, and the 9800gx2 still has only 512mb useable vram.
