:biggun: My current spec is on the side, i would like to upgrade to something "HOT" like triple or quad core. My spending budget is around 2000$
Change the CPU, Motherboard and Ram. Leave the video Card since the new generation is about to come out in a 2 months.
Is it really a good idea to get a DDR2 system now when in a few months DDR3 will be more standard? And aren't there new CPUs coming out in a few months?
I wouldn't worry about buying DDR2 now. Sure, DDR3 is getting cheaper by the week, but it still does not offer much more than DDR2, and is still very expensive in general. Besides, DDR2 is just so cheap nowadays that you don't really need to worry about buying it anyway. Nehalem is coming out sorta soonish, but mainstream CPUs will be coming out next year IIRC, so it's also no problem getting a new CPU. If you keep worrying about what is around the corner, you will never buy anything.
I agree about sticking with DDR2, the gains of DDR3 are minimal and the prices of DDR2 are at an all time low.
Get an Intel Core 2 Quad (9xxx series) With a good motherboard. (Something like Nforce 750FTW or Gigabyte P35 or a X38 Chipsets). Memory pretty much should be 4Gb (for future use) DDR800. I would recommend something along the lines of Corsair, Crucial, G.Skill, A-Data (they use good modules). The new video cards are around the corner. As the previous poster stated a new 9 series Nvidia card is coming out and the new ATI/AMD HD4xxx series is also coming out which really good judging by the specs.
32A is 32 Amps on the 12V line, the one that goes to your VGA. If you post the model number we can check for you if you don't know what to look for. And I would suggest springing the little extra cash for the Q9450. At first glance it may not look worth it for the slightly higher clocks, but it has twice the L2 cache, which is definitely worth paying a little extra for. Plus, it has an extra 0.5 multiplier, just in case you want to overclock. Mobo and RAM are top though.
Yeah by that time intel is probably going to announce another chip and that same theory that you just said will apply. He is better off buying the system now.
If I were you (and Im not, so this is only a suggestion), I would: Buy a second GTS, a decent DDR3 SLi board, 2gb of OCZ 1600mhz ddr3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227256 (put it in my dads rig with awesome results), a wolfsdale 8400 cpu, and a new psu of your choice or... scratch the second gts, sell your current one, and get one of the new 9800gtx's coming out. i do have to say I have seen stellar performance with 1600mhz ddr3
