Im seriously considering myself done with PCs( i have 3 ) but just tonight i plugged in my wireless USB device for my 360 controller on my gaming rig and band, short, PC dead, mobo power is fine, but post starts and dies.

2 months ago while playing TF2->bang PSU died, coughed up 130 euro for a new PSU

All along running an overclock my keyboard never worked, typing 'e' resulted in eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Im fed up with the whole thing, seriously this is the last straw, im sure its the case causing the short tonight, last time the psu just went pop( it was never right, which i realised when it died )

Bought an 8800gt in november and its not stable at default clocks( will crash in tdu if mem is at 1800, but fine at 1771 )

Seriously contemplating jacking the whole thing in, keeping my trusty medium end rig and just buying a console, its probably just bad luck but still, at least if your console dies you can send it back, get a new one and happy days, meh, PC's suck

Anyways, wireless pad, its definately not that though, just reckon it was a generic usb short

Arrrgghhh, its bloody annoying as i was getting back into GTA: SA, Resident Evil 4 and TDU, im mega pi$$ed

meh, my broadband is fuxored too with only 64kbit upload a nd 3mbit download so its no longer that important as have medium end laptop and pc with 3850

and this is why you should always invest in a UPS you'd be surprised what little electrical fluctuations could do to your pc, voltage regulators aren't as good as a UPS it's always good to have a backup in this case the ups battery.

another thing is that many people are happy with their 8800GT overclocked to oblivion running without a hitch, it seem to be common practice to underclock or overclock any card under Vista slightly to run it stable i blame vista & nvidia/ati anyway i'm sure your card would run top bananas under XP but i'm not going to talk you over into switching you probably want Dx10 and other nonesense in exchange of instability.. to each his own but then again lots of users got no issues with vista so it depends.

i'm not sure about the wireless 360 but hey usb will draw power off your psu and if the psu isn't delivering proper voltages occasionally you may end up with a dead rig, get some incense and purify your house you've been hit by some really bad karma :p take it easy m8.

I feel your pain buddy. This is what you need to do... stay away from PCs for about a month and play with something else... cars, out door stuff ,projects around the house or what ever... You will get gray hair if you keep thinking about your rig/rigs. Fix what you need to fix and take a brake.

cheers dude, nah, its probably down to my pc accident last year whereby i knocked it over( the USBs on the front side panel were a bit bent, but not much and 2 of the ones at the back wouldnt work ). I plugged it into the front side usb connectors( always worked fine since ) and bang, grrrrr

Nah, im not into DX10 and all that vista rubbish, i use XP all the time even though i had a dual boot vista ultimate 64 and XP setup, but 8800gt would always crap out on TDU( 5 second BSOD ) whereas with other games it would crap out eventually( 100% not temps, too me a week to figure out a slight mem underclock would make it 100% stable

PSU i brand new so shoudlnt have been that, probably my own fault, but jex im pissed, grrrrrrrr

seriously considering sticking with a cheapo medium end rig and console + laptop though as this gaming rig is cotine me a fortune, so far:
Asus P5N32E SLI 2.8Ghz OC( nothing amazing and im used to OC'ing, didnt tough volts )->DEAD->RMA
Asus P5N32E SLI same deal, died on 2.8Ghz OC, thought i killed men->bought another 2 gig ram( extra 260euro )
    Got evga 680i replacement->PSU died
    Now, probably mobo dead
Its getting expensive as now its 80 euro for evga 780i upgrade and another 30euro if mobo is duff + 30 to post in the first place + 30 euro fo RMA old CPU( yeah, that died with one of asus mobos ) + 2x30 euro for asus mobos + 30 euro for 8800gt + new Case + 150euro new PSU

Altogether since i bought my original rig i reckon ive spend 1000 euro, but all i have to show for it is a PSU with 200 extra wat and an 8800GT and an extra 2 gig ram

meh, sorry lads, im just pissed off at the moment

does the 8800GT crap out even in XP with or without under/over clocking?

when pcs work they're a wonderful thing, when the gremlins decide to piss you off they're some hateful piece of metal, a friend of mine got a 20" widescreen monitor from the shop brand new, he connected it used it all day turned it off and went to sleep next morning he tried to turn on the monitor it was dead (even though it was turned off all night!)....how did it happend and why?! the mystery still rages on or in this case s*** happend.

lol@the pic, provided much cheering up, cheers
yeah, 8800gt is fuxed at stock, will crap out in any game with a BSOD but how long it will take is unknown, TDU will kill it in no time and im sure Oblivion will too as they both do a lot of IO<>GPU mem

lol, i reckon im in the same $hit boat as your friend, id like to scream now, lmao

PC's will get you down sometimes. I mean I remember spending over £399 ($800)
for an ATI X1900XTX graphics card. Only to find that in the short time that it was released to my amazment, it could not play Oblivion at max settings at a decent frame rate.

Im am consistantly looking at my FPS in games. I use the built-in fps counter mainly (if it doesnt have one i use FRAPS). I always like to know what speed my games are running at. And I do get a little vexed when they drop below 60fps!!! YES thats right 60FPS!! I mean Im crazy! You only need 30+FPS but hey if you lot cant tell the different when a game is running at 60FPS and when a game is running at 30fps try this. Load up CSS or HL2 and set it in the console to only run at 30fps (fps_max 30, or max_fps 30 cant remember which) and tell me if you can see the difference! Also if a game runs at 100+FPS and suddenly drops down 10-20FPS because the screen is filled with explosions, debris, etc, etc I CAN NOTICE! And I hate it!

You see my friend you are not the only one who sometimes hates PC's. Though I have had my say and rant. I love my PC's, I love the freedom they give you, from gaming, to web surfing, to emailing. or forums like this one. Also, answer me this... If you go the console way... where the hell are you going to find your daily dose of free porn!? A feature the console industry lacks!

:D cheer up even though i know how you feel it's bad especially when you gotta spend your hard earned cash (you rich bastard!) to replace components rather than upgrade components or spend the money on other better things such as getting wasted at the bar lol

i've got a question for you, did you flash by any chance your 680i with the P04 bios at all? got a couple of friends who ended up with fried ram sticks and a board that suddenly won't post or boot kinda dead out of the blue one day, your 680i which revision was it? A1 or A2

lmao, i have 2 other rigs for the porn ;), im with you i notice the FPS too, 30FPS is crap in my opinion. Dunno though, i spend money i was gonna spend on a PS3 on buying this rig and wth things getting mega cheap could flog some stuff and still ave a good rig that handles al the latest pc games well and just but a PS3 too. I love PC gaming but it can be a serious $hit too sometimes and ive had crap luck since christmas

cheers dude, unfortunately im stuck at a PC at work all day but i get what you mean, and youre 100% right, with the summer coming could even be a good thing, appreciate the thought provoking alternatives, and i think i need to chill a bit, its a pain in the butt, but i have other rigs at least

lol, cheers, i think im more chilled now, daunting task of finding whats blown but ive spent 2000euro fixing up my car in the past 8 weeks so i should definately be able to sort my pc, just a pisser is all. lol@at rich bastard, i wish, but i am confortable so can afford emergency upgrades( and i really feel for anyone who cant, jebus ) moreso cos i use my gaming rig for work also so its important to have it up, ut ill do with my backup rig( only tonight i was telling Flawlez what a dependable rig my old one is, coincidence? lol )

Now the bar thing ouds tempting, have a beer night on Thursday, reckon ill go all out( not that id be worried about this crap, ggrrrrr, while socialising )

Its the AR 680i i have, no didnt flash it with that bious, las i remember was the p30, i reckon it will be fine, id prefer evga telling me its fuxored and paying 30euro rather than not knowing what the feck is blown, but im replacing the case as enuf is enuf( even though i love my old case, grrr )

Seriously appreciate the cheer up guys, was mega pi$$ed earlier, but dont mind so much now, thanx

When I received my system nearly 2 weeks ago now I had so many problems with it. The ****ing case then when I did get everything ****ing in it was randomly freezing then the motherboard completely ****ing stopped powering up.
I was like.... 'OMG I'M NEVER ORDERING SEPERATE COMPONENTS AGAIN I HATE ****ING COMPUTERS!'

Now the new mobo is gonna be here tomorrow and I'm like.... 'Heh, I still like computers' :D

I feel ya, my PC is running fine but I have taken my time and money and have moved to a console. I'm sick of playing the whole hardware and software game, no more upgrading for awhile for me and no more software nightmares either.

Just plug it in and go sounds great to me for awhile!!!

I'm going to be totally honest when I say this.

PC's are a mystery, some parts get along some dont..and yes the CASE can short things. I've had a tower back in the day a no name...short my brand new ECS 8x AGP board when they were new....ate my athlon 1 ghz chip also. I was SO mad...

I've built maybe 4 pc's inbetween that time and now, for myself that is. To this day..my current rig is the most stable machine I've ever used. I was using 2 HD 3870 X2's with this same rig, but for w/e reason no matter what driver i started to use, i had static going through my monitor. Yet i stick the HD 3870 X2 in my Athlon 6400+ X2 rig its fine.

So i just got the ECS 9800 GX2 stuck it on my X38 board and VROOM...took off no problems. Strange but this PC is perfectly fine now.

OP not saying you dont have a clue, but maybe research parts and compatibility a bit more. Brand names etc do have a part in stability, especially in certain combinations.

For example... my old MSI 680i P5N Diamond would not post A-Data memory at all. I had 4 gigs of DDR2 A-Data 800 ready from my EVGA AMD 590 SLI board rdy. Well i had to get mushkin for that board and it took off.

    to quote the wow boards....

    Can i have your stuff?

Man i've had my share of incredibly stupid **** happen.

One day i fired up my PC and it was dead. I took it apart and saw a black line on my 4400x2, i scrambled to the PC store and got a 3500+ just to get me by. got drunk. removed the IHS on the 4400x2 and plugged it back in for ****s and giggle. and it worked....to my advantage i then had an uncapped 4400x2.

A few months ago i got a antec 900 and put it all together in my new rig and none of my usb would work, it disabled the plug n play service somehow and i had to reinstall windows....for a case swap wtf. A few weeks later i was doing something and it turn out that the case was warping my motherboard and my ****e audigy4 wasn't seating properly and it turns out that was what caused my USB problem.

Back in the day Battlefield Vietnam blew up my power supply twice in 1 day, i have a 9800pro at the time and that sucker was king of the hill back then needless to say i've never player bf Vietnam.
