Hi guys...I'm a New Guru here....

i just wanna ask some questions:

1-when and why do we need to tweak the ram on overclocking??
2- what is the limit of overclocking a Q6600 without tweaking anything on the ram??
3- do ram with Cas latency 4 & 5 have much of a difference between each other??? i mean does the cas latency 4 make much difference over that of 5??

    thanks guys anyway...:)

1.Cause RAM clocks with it, FSB*RAM Multplier = RAM Frequency. FSB*CPU Multplier = CPU Frequency

If your CPU Multiplier is 9x
    And FSB is 400
Then your CPU runs @ 400*9=3600MHz
So FSB is 400, and you can chose RAM multiplier ( combination's depends of the motherboard ) 2x 2.5x 3x and 4x
So FSB is 400 if you chose you RAM multiplier 2x then it's 400*2=800MHz.
    400*2.5=1000MHz for your RAM.
Although voltages has to be set too when doing a higher clock ( Q6600 should do up to 3.2GHz without changing the voltage ) - although it depends on the each Q6600 how will it do.

2.As you can see in the #1 answer..

3.Well, yep kinda, CL4 is better, watch it like this, 4-4-4-12 and 800MHz is something like 5-5-5-15 and 1000MHz.
CL4 has a lower latency, higher bandwidth, or the copy/read would be higher with the lower latency.

I hope this is an easy and understandable explanation for the basic info.

    1333x9 = 3GHz with no voltage change.

    i think you mean 333x9= 3GHZ..don't you??

Well in my BIOS I have to put 1333 for it to say 3GHz. If I put it to 333 and hit enter, my CPU is like way under 2.4GHz (default) haha.

You've been setting "Rated FSB" that's 1333/4=333 or the FSB, and 333x9=3000MHz

Divide 1600 with 4 and you get the FSB, that's it.

*edit* oh Billabong was quicker :)

I wish I could get my Q6600 to 3.2GHz. Damn motherboard won't boot up no more then 3GHz.

Man, no way 780i chipset can't do it, also the CPU, how did you set it ?

No they don't! Both revs are great overclockers but B3 steppings naturally get hotter and therefore exceed OC headroom earlier than their cooler G0 counterparts.

My mates b3 wont go above 3.2ghz.
I get 3.6ghz with my go step.
    weve got the same mobo.

the temp diff between g0 and b3 is nothing, your looking at around 3 degrees. (mabye more depending were you live)

i had a b3 before my g0 and it was exactly the same...but i replaced it anyway

    Agreed.

Something is up with your board or CPU. Even a B3 should hit higher than that on a 780i.
