if the spec,s are to be belived that would make the 8800GTS 512 a good move.

But to be honest not a good move by nvidia the 9800GTX should be much better and maybe it is only time will tell

I expected more. A year and almost half from the launch of the 8800 GTX and this is all they can give us! **** you Nvidia!

wow..... we have very limited details and people are already making massive assumptions about it.

Look at the 9600GT. performs quite well for it's price, and for being a mainstream card more than an enthusiast card.

right.... "enthusiast" card.... so your saying u might pay for a card with faster clocks and a 45nm process just so it consumes less power? .. compared to the current 8800gtx/ultra?.

Read the hi-lighted part out loud to your self and then comment.
Of course those speculated clocks aren't true that would be a very bad move for nVidia. They do have a team of people that do know these things. They will not release a card that has negligable performance improvments over the previouse gen.
Well, they won't release it to the public anyway. No telling what deals Dell and Alienware have with them though. They mightget a crappy vers. to put into "high-end" rigs and tote them off to those with more money than brains.

But after waiting over a year for the next advancement from Nvidia and this is all they can give us!! I can see the adds now: "Nvidia's new line of 9800 cards', 'The Budget Series'."

gratz u just became smart. Yea pay that much for extra clocks and 256bit 1.5gb of ram =/ wow genius.

    i'd rather go get a 1gb 8800gt.

uuh.... was anyone else able to make sense of that post?

the 9600GT is a MAINSTREAM card for the 9 series.... with slightly lesser performance of the 8800GT, which is more along the lines of an ENTHUSIAST card. how hard was that to understand? And honestly.... yes, i would pay for a card with higher clocks and a 45nm manufacturing process. why? CHEAPER! the 9800GX2 is rumored to be priced around $400-500. MUCH better than the 7950GX2, which i believe was somewhere around the $600 range when it came out. PLUS, the 9800GX2 is supposed to be 30% faster than the 8800 Ultra. and we all know how much THOSE cost on release.

Whiplashwang: 9600's are mainstream, 9800's aren't. how hard is that to understand?

Freakin people look at specs and think "F*CK that's going to suck". How? it's going to be a cooler operating card with higher performance than what we have now, for quite a nice chunk of change less than what we originally had to pay for what we have now. On top of that..... it's the second generation of cards using stream processors rather than pixel and vertex shaders. pretty sure that some things have been ironed out. just look at the 9600GT. last i checked, it's specs are well under the 8800GT's, yet performs pretty close to it.

people these day seem to judge video cards before they even come out along with judgeing them by 06,05,or 03 benchmark tool, and they don't even own the card. The way I feel about this is if you never had the card and/or if it isnt even out don't judge it because you have no idea what it capible of.

When the 8800GTX came out it was a big performance improvement compared to the 7900 Series (Just look here: http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/391/19/ It shows that the 8800GTX was at least 80% faster than the 7900GTX on some games). My point is that they have had over a year to make a new excellent card and this is all they can give us. And it's quite obvious if the 9800GX2 is going to be the next best card from Nvidia and it is only 30% faster than the 8800 Ultra then this 9800GTX is going to be 20% faster (if that) than the 8800 Ultra.

The only thing I see that is good from these new series is that they consume quite a bit lesser power which makes me pretty happy.
