Thanx for the heads-up (live in the Netherlands) They currently have it in pre-order though, guess they are waiting for decent drivers as well.
thanks for the infos about HD3850 AGP. 9100pkt in 3dm05 is really low tho. i got over 10k on my setup with gf7950gt, so logically i was counting for 13-15k with 3850? am I mistaken?
no, your exactly right for thinking that. like i said, i did 9.9k with my 1950xt. that 3850 should be doing considerably more then that.
You can't make a direct comparison. Those x3850 benches were with a Single Core P4. In ORB there are only 2 scores for a single core P4, AGP config that top 9K. Both of those had the CPUs OC'd to 4.3 GHz.
Yeah well I got 9592 (3DMarks) and 5540 (CPUMarks) on 3DMark05 so I think thats a seriously bad bottleneck going on there with your system and the HD3850, surprised you can play the "latest" games at 1920x1200 okay at all, anyone know if this card is coming to the UK as I might consider it.
That´s for 100% not only the Bottleneck. The Drivers that are available for the HD3850 AGP so far are the last piece of sh** they are unstable, cause Bluescreens and VGA Singal loses and run only on selected MoBo Chipsets. The Score will be much higher when ATI will start to really support this card (Hopefully from the 8.2´s)
I totally agree with you! I can't stress enough that my CPU is only a Bottleneck at resolutions below 1600x1200. My 3dmark 05 scores were done at 1024x768!!! The drivers are just horrible and as I said already, to be considered BETA at best. I'm sure I'll be able to achieve higher scores once the official driver is out..not to mention that I`ll be able to overclock the card then.
Let me clarify "the latest games" for you. Let's take "The Witcher" for example. At 1920x1200 16xAS and 4xAA it was unplayable with my old GeForce 7800 based on the G71 chip. My HD 3850 breaks no sweat. I can't say how many frames it delivers but the game runs totally smooth. Something to note though is, I experience something that I can only describe as hiccups...every now and then the game freezes for 1 to max 2 secs. it's like the memory is running out of breath. I hope it's due to those bad bad drivers, the only other reason I could think of is that the bridge chip that translates the PCI-E signal from the GPU into AGP is to blame
Now those scores are more like it. Great Pics. Thanks for sharing. Edit: Also saw a post from a Mod over at Anandtech and he said he spoke with a Sales Rep for Sapphire and they said their card will be out Mid-February in the USA.
That doesn't mean that much .... Read this.... http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Guides/cpu_bottlenecks/
We both read your link. That's Core2Duo Scaling, you're running a AMD 3000+XP CPU. There's a big diffrence. Up unit about 6 months ago I was using a 3700+, so trust me I know. By the way, I'm not discouraging you from getting this card. I just want you to be aware that you shouldn't expect the performance level xixou was getting.
Sure I know what your telling me is true ,, But also the fact is ,, a stronger video card will still improve my gaming , even if my cpu is weak by todays standards.. When will it be sold in the USA and for how much $$$
might want to check this out before hand. http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/02/01/agp-platform-analysis/page5.html
Exactly, that's all I was saying. Personally I never let my processor get in the way of upgrading my old AGP Rigs a new video card. I always saw a performance boost, regardless of what dog of a CPU I had in my rig.
