Meh... Well, he's still living with his parents, his parents bought his car, and he goes out and drinks and probably gets laid in the process. He deserved to get his car taken, if he hadn't, then he might have gotten his and/or somebody else's life taken away from DUI. Maybe that will teach him somewhat of a lesson, but probably not. - XeonPower
Kids are dumb,Thats life. That's not meant to insult young people, or imply they aren't capable of thought. It means they don't have enough practical life experience to make proper decisions, or fully realize the actions they take have consequences. It's called growing up for a reason. The best we can hope for, is that people learn from their mistakes, and don't repeat them. Adults, by that I mean people in a position of influence, who have made the same mistakes, and grew,( Parents especially) should pass on what they've learned by being strict, setting rules, and enforcing them. The whole "mean" thing is meant tongue in cheek. The main problem today, IMHO, is too many parents want to be "cool", and have a buddy buddy relationship with the kids. There's nothing wrong with having a good relationship with your child, but not at the expense of proper teaching. When Parents fail to teach, evolution goes backwards, and society suffers as a whole.
That's probably true. I don't know the exact circumstances behind the alcohol being in the car (open container, was it his friends etc) but they are irrelevant. He is a 19 year old driving mommy’s car and living in mommy’s house so he follows her rules - end of story. If I was his dad I would kick his ass for disrespecting my wife and I. Anyone else catch that this person is a f*cking weasel? "It belonged to my friend" would never have come out of my mouth when I was coming up. If I was with someone who I knew was doing something stupid even if I wasn't directly involved and I got pinched for it then I kept my mouth shut and took my lumps. I had the time of my life from 16-21. I was serving in the US Navy, taking college courses, traveling the world and chasing whores whenever I was feet dry. I didn't lose anything by leaving home at 16 and having to work my ass off, but I gained a lot by doing it. You’re dead on right when it comes to teaching a child how to manage their lives from day 1. I don't care if by managing you mean their relationships, finances, education or their professional lives. Personal responsibility, self-sufficiency, morality and a strong work ethic are what are missing from many families, religious institution and schools.
Since the parents bought the car and the kid is 19, they would be liable for damages caused by the idiot kid. He wouldn't get another car in my house until he bought it himself with money he earned at a real damn job. Damn right sell his car.
I agree with the mom, although I'm sure many my age would not. Her actions are justified and that guy deserves what he's getting. He's probably lazy enough to not even care
When you grow up you realize that it's bad to do all those things, such as too much drinking and drugs. Young people think they "understand" this concept but statistics show otherwise.
One strike and your out seems a bit harsh don't you think? Buy a portable breathalyser, and confiscate his keys unless he passes. Comes home drunk after driving again, fvck yeah sell the car. Make him pay his own way. But one strike and you're out???
Yeah! Cool guys! Why don't you just make it illegal to consume Alcohol again like back in 1920's ....I heard it worked really well....
I can honestly agree 100% here, im 20 rasing my little girl cause her mom left, and working full time. I can tell you one thing, that is how my mother raised me, heck if i looked at Porn i got the computer taken away, parents need to be stricker on kids these days, I can honestly say most of the kids I graduated with are going to collage on there daddies bill, and refuse to work at school to support them selves, it is disgusting to me and im there age.
But ya know... let him enjoy the car while he can cause with the way gas prices are going up what teen could afford putting gas in one to go anywhere??? Give it 5 more years and the US will be in a major recession caused by High energy prices mostly Gasoline...granted we are not in another war which to be honest is exactly what we need to stiffin up the economy and promote jobs otherwise when this one with Iraq is over and all those soldiers come home to a already high unemployment rate guess whats going to happen. Hell look what will happen with all the Government funded jobs people are working for war supplies when its over.. time to shut them down and lay people off. Welcome to the 1920's!
stupid kids.. grow up your mommy or daddy got you a car at least have some self dignity and be responsible for yourself and it pfff
She should sell it and force him to be there when it is driven off by the buyer to really bring the point home. I've seen too many tards that cause all sorts of issues because of their drinking and/or drug abuse.
lol i would have taken the card, and setting out front for him to look at each day when get gets on the bus or his bike. Im a dad and i hope i can teach my kids not think before they act, even if the beer was not his, it should have not been in the car, and yes if he had a wreck the partens would be libal for the damages.
She was smart to sell the car however she was stupid to buy him one in the first place. Had this kid had to work to buy the car himself I guarentee he would've appreciated more. Because of that he wouldn't have let any "friends" have alcohol in his car. Kids these days are given everything and have a sense of entitlement. I call it the Paris Hilton effect. I'm just worried that his feelings were hurt as a result of all this.
