Hi guys, On new years day my 1,5 year old 6800GT died on me. I only play WOW and MTW2...so my current system of a P4 3.0Ghz along with the 6800GT was good enough.(My recent upgrade was for a 22"screen) I am not planning to buy a new system just yet...so will stay AGP.So i am looking for a replacement GFX card.First of all I have read thru the whole thread about GFX and its ranking system. And frankly I think it's just one of teh best ones around. But what I would like for guru3d members to help me with is finding the right GFX card. I must say since I bought the 6800GT the AGP cards have only gotten better AND cheaper.Great for me..but like always not always easier. What I am looking for is a card that can boost my system. I like to play in highest resolution(1600x1200) cause of my large screen. So looking for GFX that can deliver the best possible performance without having my system as the bottleneck. These are the following options including price. 1) Powercolor X1650pro 512ddr2 (€47/33gbp)..is this less that the 6800GT? 2) Sparkle 7600GS 256ddr2(€69/48GBP) 512DDR2(€88/60gbp) 3)Twintech 7600GT 256DDR3 (84€/58gbp)..my favorite.Downside dont know the brand. 4)Xpertvision X850XT 256DDr3 (€79/56gbp).Oldie, but is it still a goodie? 5)Sapphire 2600XT 256DDr3 (€89/60gbp) Which would be the best? But for around 120€/80GBP i get into the real highend cards. Do you think it will be worth it to splurge on these cards? or would my system be a real bottleneck factor? 5)Sapphire X1950GT 256DDr3 (115€/78) 6)Powercolor X1950pro 256DDR3 (115€/78gbp) 7)XFX 7900GS (€131/90gbp) 8)Twintech 8600GTS (121€/80gbp) Guys hope you can help me out. Which of these would give me teh best performance with my current system and gaming needs.
If it were me? and playing at that resolution. I would most definitely get the 6)Powercolor X1950pro 256DDR3 (115€/78gbp). Great card at a good price. Have you looked in places like ebay? The improvement should be excellent from your current card. Maybe a bit of RAM too?? Good luck
Definately the X1950 Pro. Better than the 7900GS and cheaper at that. Wouldn't go with the 8600GTS since the only benefit would be Dx10 which is total **** atm anyways. EDIT: Dang, lillelj was faster.
TBH If you can wait, save up and buy a new mobo and cpu, but if you cant then either wait for the hd3850 agp card or if you want a card now then the X1950pro is the only way to go (best price/performance ). EDIT: At that res im sure bottlenecking will be nill. EDIT 2: Also your psu should hold out too.
Thanks for the replies mate. Good info about the X1950pro...didnt realise it was so much better. I am frankly pretty modest(=cheap) gamer. Only if a game comes on that i cant play...will it force me to upgrade. I have been looking at upgrading. Mainly because of the cheap DDR2 memory and relatively cheap PCi-E gfx cards. For example: Intell 6750i for (151€/100GBP) Asus p5b (€75/50gbp) 4Gb mem (75€/4gb) Jetway ATI 3850 (€149/100GBP) FOr 450€ i will seriously upgrade my system. Or I can just buy a videocard instead My budget model X1650pro at 48€/30GBP imo is a great buy. But will actually be decreasing in performance compared with the 6800GT. My secondary choice is actually the 7600GT at 84€/57gbp.It will be certain improvement over my 6800Gt and has been very highly touted. But after reading the messages I am really inclined now to splurge on the X1950pro at 115€/78gbp. Are u guys sure that my system will not be a bottleneck using this card? I have 1,5MB of memory..but getting memory could be a good idea. Maybe an extra 1Gb later. I have a 22" widescreen and like to play at the max widescreen resolutions.
Yes it will be bottlenecked (slightly) but at that res (on your 22inch screen) it wont be as noticeable. If your looking to play at a higher res do look at the 7900/x1950 cards as they'll actually power that with a modest frame rate. Also more memory will help, but again its cheap to upgrade, so why not wait and save.. I did.
well i still want to play while i wait for upgrade. Hmm the 1950pro is sold out. This is the card to get, the 512MB version. Also, I don't think this is out yet, the XFX GeForce 7950 GT 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) looks very good. Probably be the last of the AGP cards.
I think the best choice would be to buy some cheap card from ebay or such. Could be X1600 or 7600 or something, those will play you WoW and the like so you're not totaly lost. And then save some money to upgrade the whole rig. And after that get yourself some of the latest games and be amazed
7950gt kicks a fair bit of a*s its a good card was thinking of getting one for my other agp set up it has a 7600gs in it
