    if your dvd drive is not sata check your transfer mode. it should be dma not pio. the pio transfer mode could be your porblem

    you can check it in
    system properties->hardware->devices management
    (not sure about the names on english :p)
    and there check the entries of "ide/ata/atapi drivers".
    programs such as nero infotool, sandra or everest can get that info too.

    I have the 3rd "First ide channel", with dispositive 1 on mode PIO, but i cant change it.
    The rest of all ide channels are on dma mode.

    make sure the power cable for your cd drive is coming directly from the psu and not sub powering any hdd's. i came across this problem before and resolved it this way.

    ok i think other has posted already but try this.

    open start
    right click "my computer" -> hardware tab -> device manager
    collapse "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
    Open all IDE channels and check there advanced settings if any say transfer mode: PIO Change it to DMA if available.
    click ok now back in device manager right click uninstall the IDE channel restart pc so it reinstalls it and
    ...
    .....
    done.

    sorry for poor layout of this post.

    i would sugest the same as cdlink14. uninstal an reboot so windows reinstal the channel. that should fix your problem. windows has this thing over the transfer mode to change it to pio and sometimes refuses to roll it back to dma.
