I actually just found a series called Death Note and I'm very intrigued by it. I had no idea that something classified as "anime" could have such an elaborate storyline NOT involving guns, swords, or "powering up". I'm a huge fan of taking a rather simplistic run of the mill series thats been done before and adding a mythical element to it. Although, since this series seems to re-classify what that is, I have nothing to compare it to. Still...it's a breath of fresh air and I'm enjoying every episode more than the previous. Anyway...not pertaining to any specific genre or type, but what are you watching recently that has actually changed your viewpoint and saved you from the same old garbage that is broadcast daily? Although mine was related to an anime, I don't expect anyone else's to be locked down in that same medium, unless you choose so. I'm just curious what heightens gurus interests lately since I consider most of them to be the small percentage of people that actually "get it".
I like "House M.D.". At first I thought "oh no, another medical drama" but it turned out to have a bunch of fascinating characters. House, Cameron, Cuddy, Chase, Foreman and Wilson, all have each a distinct but clear personality and I like to watch how they interact.
house is deff high on the list.. nip/tuck is mad but a good show and lately ive picked up battlestar galactica also very good
life on mars for you peeps over in the states http://www.bbc.co.uk/lifeonmars/ cant wait for the next installment Ashes to ashes http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2007/04_april/11/ashes.shtml
Journey man is a knock-off of Quantam leap which is a partial steal from Dr Who. Anyways jouney man sucks no thrills no laughs just plenty of iPhone adverts.
Haven't watched any Death Note, but I know it's supposed to be good. The GF has/is reading the manga. She says the manga is better than the anime, but most seem to be that way. Too bad I don't like paying for manga. It's pretty expensive here in the US, like $10 a book. Over in Taiwan it's like $1 or less per book, TO OWN. Doctor Who is my favorite series ATM. Reaper and House are very good as well. The show that most caught me off guard when I first saw it was Mythbusters. That was about 2 years ago I think, possibly longer. Who'd have thought a show about myths and such could be so fascinating. I didn't until I watched it.
Mtyhbusters = Good stuff. That series has been around since early '03 (I think), and each season just gets better and better. Whenever I tell someone that Mythbusters is one of my favorite shows, I feel like I have to put on my geek shirt, pocket protector and all. Of course I also have a smile on my face. =D
Anime that is win - The Big O, Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell. I'm huge into Top Gear right now, "off guard" because I got BBCA a couple of months ago and never went to it before - knew about Top Gear, never thought I'd be able to watch it Edit: Mythbusters is doing a MacGyver special soon! They testest 3 "mini-mths" all were proved true
