Hey! I need some help.. I've just updated my forceware drivers to version 163.75 (the second latest?). I did everything like it says in the Driver Cleaner readme. uninstall the display driver, reboot to safe mode and so on.. I think I had version 94.24 installed before. Anyway, my problem is that after installing the new drivers my nvidia Control panel isn't working anymore.. There is only one tab in the cp, system stability -> run a stability test. I have nvidia nTune installed too, but it doesn't work either and can't be uninstalled :/ i'm really confused. i made a system restore point before installing the new drivers.. i could use it to get back to those old drivers. oh and i had this same problem when i was going to install new drivers (163.43?) but then cp didn't work either, i restored my system. thank for your help!
First, the latest driver (At least in beta status) is 169.25. Download those 1.Boot the computer into safemood. 2.Uninstall the drivers (And the ntune if you can in safemode) 3.Use Driver cleaner to remove everything still left after uninstalltion. 4.now reboot ,and go into safe mode once again. 5.Install the new drivers (I'd say 169.25) 6. Boot up into normal mode and enjoy. Unless it's an evil computer But good luck
Ok, and that should solve the Control Panel problem, just installing those drivers?? I can't remove nTune in normal mode.. maybe in safe mode? because nothing happens when i click to uninstall it. the loading bar just goes and that's it... weird. so are those 169.25 drivers stable and work well with games like CoD4 and Company of Heroes?? Thank you.
7.Uninstall Ntune 8.Install rivatuner 2.06 If you want stability I would say install the 163.75 WHQL.
But I have just installed 163.75 drivers three days ago as I said... But my Control Panel doesn't work and nTune doesn't uninstall itself.
I'm having the exact same problem! I've been using nforce 94.24 drivers with no problems. Wanted to try newer drivers for hd video playback. Tried 163.75 and no control panel. I've changed drivers before, never had this type of problem. My setup is ASUS A8N32 sli mobo w/ 2 x 7950 GTX. After installing new drivers system boots up and my monitor is in dualview mode. I can't use nvidia control panel from windows control panel, right click on desktop, or from taskbar. I click it and nothing. The hard drive activity lite flashes like the comp is gonna do something then it just stops. It's not hung up, just doesn't work. WIERD. Any other ideas?
The 163.75 whql are the most stable recent drivers for most people, thats a fact. In your case the problem with the control panel not working is unusual so I can only make a couple of suggestions firstly follow exactly what steps have already been described. If this doesnt work download and install Nvtray beta 1.0.5.0.1, it gives you the option to enable all control panel tweaks including using the classic control panel instead of the new one. If this doesnt work either then you can be pretty sure that all your problems stem from that 'evil' ntune utility and you need to find some way to uninstall it, try reinstalling and then uninstalling, if you updated it at any point then you need to install the older version to be able to uninstall. After this insure all ntune related services have also stopped.
Well I never loaded ntune, don't know what it is. I use this machine for HD dvbs. The highest video drivers I can load and still have use of the control panel are 93.71 whql. I just spent almost 4 hours loading, cleaning, trying this and that. I don't know what gremlins are present on this machine, but I've given up on the latest nforce drivers and will stick to 93.71 since that works. HD quality is better that the older drivers I was using, and I've got h264 decoding working smooth. Guess one day when I format and start over I'll see then. Thanks.
vista 32-bit here..... i have been having troubles with NV CP not saving individual manage 3D profile settings.everytime individual settings are applied ,after closing NV CP and re-opening invidual profifes are reset set back to "use global setting".... also my global seeting work fine.....i can force whatever settings through global, but individual profiles reset no matter what..... fresh drvier install every time, tried 2 different Ntune version 5.45 & 5.54, this has been accuring since the beta that came after 163.75...i have been installing every new release since and nothing has fixed it....currently running 169.21's now and thinking of a completely fresh O/S install soon... maybe a sp1beta issue? my bro's xp 32 bit with
Ok, thank you. I'll try to install new drivers. I think i'll install 163.75 drivers again with the given instructions.
I have run into the no Control Panel problem many times. The best fix is just doing a clean re-install of Windows but the following fix has also worked for me most of the time: What I am starting to suspect is that Driver Cleaner is at fault and it's deleting a protected registry entry that it shouldn't be and when the new driver is being installed, it doesn't have the necessary permissions to re-create it.
I managed to uninstall nTune by downloading the program and running the setup again, it wanted to remove nTune automatically! This is what i'm going to do next. 1.Boot the computer into safemood. 2.Uninstall the drivers (And the ntune if you can in safemode) 3.Use Driver cleaner to remove everything still left after uninstalltion. 4.now reboot ,and go into normal mode. 5. Then in normal mode start the install process (163.75). The installer asks you where to extract the files, remember where you tell it. 6. Once it's done extracting and asks you to click next, cancel it. 7. Now go to that folder and find nv4_disp.inf. Open it in a text editor (I use gvim, notepad will work). 8. In the file, look for [nv_ControlPanelSettings] In that section, about 21 lines down, look for: CODE HKLM,Software\"NVIDIA Corporation"\Global\NvSvc,"Nvcmd:3,Register,Persis t:1",%REG_SZ%,"nvmccs.dll" 9. After that line add the following six (6) lines: CODE HKLM,Software\"NVIDIA Corporation"\Global\NvSvc,"Nvcmd:4,Register",%REG_ SZ%,"nvdisps.dll" HKLM,Software\"NVIDIA Corporation"\Global\NvSvc,"Nvcmd:5,Register",%REG_ SZ%,"nvgames.dll" HKLM,Software\"NVIDIA Corporation"\Global\NvSvc,"Nvcmd:6,Register",%REG_ SZ%,"nvmccss.dll" HKLM,Software\"NVIDIA Corporation"\Global\NvSvc,"Nvcmd:7,Register",%REG_ SZ%,"nvmobls.dll" HKLM,Software\"NVIDIA Corporation"\Global\NvSvc,"Nvcmd:8,Register",%REG_ SZ%,"nvvitvs.dll" HKLM,Software\"NVIDIA Corporation"\Global\NvSvc,"Nvcmd:9,Register",%REG_ SZ%,"nvwss.dll" 10. Save the file, exit the editor. 11. Run setup.exe in that folder, continue with the install. OPTIONAL: Some have reported that sometimes there's also a service / "1st run" issue on reboot after an install. To prevent it: 12. When prompted to reboot after an install, say no. 13. Start->Run, and type: "services.msc" 14. Scroll down on the right, look for "NVIDIA Display Driver Service" 15. Right click, edit properties 16. Make sure Startup type is set to "Automatic" 17. Click ok, close services 18. REBOOT! and enjoy.
Ok, I did as I told in the previous post, and wohoo!!! control panel is at least working now! the temperature thing isn't working, i dunno why it doesn't open it... anyway it's much better now. So is RivaTuner better than nTune? i could give it a try. I hope it won't give such problems as nTune did. Thank you.
I'm hoping the fix above will restore my control panel. What a PITA it's been playing the Nvidia driver square-dance.
The temp isn't working because that's a function of Ntune but trust me it's not worth leaving on a system even just to monitor temp. Yes Rivatuner is better and will also monitor temps. Another decent way to monitor temp (on Vista) is to grab a beta version of Everest (here at Guru) and you can configure it to display any temp you want (and other info) on a sidebar gadget.
I been looking for this fix for months! Thanks guys! Should make this a sticky! I miss the old control panel tho.
To uninstall Ntune, use the Setup.exe file for it again, and it will say it is already installed, do you want to remove it? then click yes of course... then reboot. I had a similar problem, but I did it this way and everything was removed... just remember to delete the Ntune folders in "C:/Program Files" directory. That should uninstall it, as It doesn't seem to uninstall right under Add/Remove. Only thing I can think of for the Forceware driver problem, is reformat and do a fresh install. My bro seems to have a similar problem when he tries to update his drivers... there will be no control panel at all. I just wish there wasn't so many programs that don't uninstall themselves fully... and leave junk behind.
Drive Cleaner Is there a safe drive cleaner you can download? not the 1 that says ur pc has porn on it and u must buy this now or got to hell and blah blah blah??
